I find this surprising for a politics forum regular.
EskimoSpy had said he rarely votes too, which I find shocking. Shows how f'ed up our electoral system is when very involved people don't feel their vote matters.

Edit: I see he just said the same thing for himself.

On the evidence of this thread some of you dislike each other more than you do Trump. I hope AT is not representative of the US electorate as a whole.

Anyone saying they won't vote Democrat unless it's Sanders is just nuts, but the hate being spat at him by centrists is just as crazy, IMO. I keep biting my tongue because on this topic (internal disputes of the liberals and left) above all I would find it hard to disagree with a response that's it's none of my buseiness as a non-US-citizen. But the infighting is distressing to witness, especially when global issues like climate change are at stake.

Okay, I won't quote you, but I tried what you said, and the Bernie Bro just said that now he's telling his whole family not to vote for anyone besides Bernie. This is getting worse. Please folks, we need to beat Trump, so vote for Sanders. Now is not the time for purity politics!

You went and slapped someone upside the head at 1AM? (EST at least) That’s commitment! Also if you honestly believe now is not the time for purity politics then you should be saying that to the Bernie Bros.

The process is the process. If people want to try and hold the country hostage to get their preferred candidate then all that’s going to happen is they are going to make their candidate less popular. People vote emotionally for the most part so the logic of ‘Bernie Bros will make Trump win if he isn’t the nominee’ will just make people hate Bernie, not vote for him.

For real, one of Bernie’s biggest vulnerabilities is his obnoxious twitter following. Most people I know like him but so many immediately follow that with ‘but I can’t stand his followers’.

Until Trump I rarely voted either because it’s mathematically pointless. I do vote now though, not because I think it changes the odds of my preferred candidate winning but because I feel such a sense of revulsion at what Trump represents I feel morally obligated.

I was guilty of this until 2016 also. I have discovered a passion however for running Republicans out of every seat I can tick the box for down to the local water board. Also pushing out Dems who are too comfortable with the old ways which don't fit us anymore.

I have only ever voted out of an desire to express an emotional response, becuase the electoral system has always meant my vote had zero chance of making any difference (don't think I've ever lived anywhere but a rock-solid Labour seat). But it's like an involuntary facial expression that you make even when the cause of it can't even see it.

I'd think if they were in this thread it would be easy enough to quote them. Maybe you're thinking of this post where I linked a tweet from the late daughter of Eric Garner?

Yes, that is probably what I was thinking of.

Seeing everyone so angry is disappointing, personally I think the results thus far is pretty good. I've never liked Biden and always thought the media was over-hyping him as a good candidate. I'm a bit surprised that Warren is that far lower than Sanders. I really like Sanders because I believe he's the best candidate that can reshape the future of this country at the moment and that he's been the most consistent candidate that had the right message through his career. I have no issues with Pete being on of the top dogs because he himself is a progressive option, the Republicans' heads would explode if the next President of the United States was gay and I fully support that.

The only disappointing thing is how fucked up Iowa is with their system. The result of the process is unfortunately a big win for Trump but I still firmly believe that with what Trump has been doing the past three years, less people will vote for him. Even if they don't vote for a Democrat, if the previous voters who voted for Trump because they wanted change just stayed home during this upcoming election, it would be a huge blow to the orange Fuhrer. Democrats just have to get their heads out of their asses and one, not fuck up their own elections so badly and two, stop being so vitriol to each other.

It's sad that Democrats have to do all these things that nobody requires Republicans to do.

Reports say that the IDC paid $60K Shadow Inc for the app. To me that seems stupidly cheap to develop something as politically important as verifying and reporting the results of the "first in the nation" caucus.

The Iowa Democratic Party paid about $60,000 to Shadow, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Not sure why you would compare Democrats to Republicans when the latter are pretty much trash tier people right now. Republicans have nothing to do with the current Primary election and there is no reason we should ever stoop to their level. If the Democrats do stoop to their level, then this country is 100% fucked.

Ditto. Lived in 'better dead than a democrat' states until recently, and now i'm in a solidly blue one. Hasn't really mattered. Now I care just to have +1 on the popular vote, if only so I know what side of history I'm on.

I'm not saying we should stoop to their level, I'm just saying that most Americans have ridiculous requirements for a Democrat to be considered "electable" let alone "exciting." Any fucking excuse is legitimate when convincing themselves not to vote for a filthy Democrat.

I'm pretty much here just for the shit show and for the lulz. I've never paid this much attention to politics because it's never been so entertaining. The people who are extreme on either sides just blow my mind. And we have plenty of both on this forum.

I'm more the latter.

Even if it's not a competitive race, I still try to vote as it still generates a data point on issues and trends. Enough of these catch the attention of the smart strategists, hopefully, eventually.

At the end of the day, pols pay attention to the voters that show up as they are the only ones that matter. That's why old people are so catered to and college students are not. Really, some of the most important times to vote are when others are not.

Unless you have a poorly organized election place (or have an idiotic caucus system..), it only ends up taking a few minutes at most once a year.

2nd in Iowa and probably blow everybody out in NH. Closing the gap in SC and NV.
If I lived in New Hampshire, you bet your ass I’d vote for Deval Patrick over Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar as the “moderate” option. Sadly, I think 99% of the country has forgotten he’s in the race.

Or where Republicans are in charge. They seem to work hard at making voting take as long as possible. Where I live the average wait time to vote is over an hour.

There seems to be a lot of that going around, which is as it should be. If all the decent but disinterested people in this country vote then Trump & the GOP will be destroyed. If they don't, then they'll be the ones getting destroyed.

This is why Bernie should've let Warren run for the left wing of the party and given her his full support from day one. He already helped give us Trump once and his stupid cult might again.

Why didn't Warren run last time? Why now when he amassed the following? I said prior I thought so too after the heart attack, but it's his choice to stay in, and I didn't know how major it was. Now that he's been ahead of Warren, why don't you say the same about Warren dropping out? If you want to blame anyone for the bad process for selecting out of more than 2 candidates, blame the Democratic leadership. They could have changed this decades ago.

Hillary lost because of Hillary. A lot of us didn't want her to even run because of the controversy surrounding her. But nope, she had to be queen!

I'm saying he should've let Warren take the lead because she doesn't have a cult of personality that will torpedo the nominee if it isn't her.
