Game for just driving around?

Does anyone remember that old DOS game "Vette!"? I remember how awesome that game was because you just drove around and you could get tickets for speeding or running lights. I love nostalgia

Yes, although you may want a mod or something (save game?) that opens access to the entire map. Cars, bikes, boats, choppers.

You can also adjust the level of "traffic," but increasing it can use a little cpu power.

For Arma II, a 250km square map that lets you go anywhere with towns (wouldn't call them cities) dotted around the map and a map editor that lets you place tons of units (including many non combat ones) and give those units instructions on what to do and when to do it. But it is mostly countryside.

Not really a driving game, but Mafia 2 allows you to steal a variety of "classic cars and trucks". The city has a great design as well.

Midtown Madness by Microsoft is a fun game if you just wanna drive around. There are many pedestrians but you are unable to hit them. Give it a shot.

The original Mafia game actually allows you to fill up your car. The graphics are pretty bad though, and the cars are pretty terrible given that it takes place in the 1930s.

Got GTA4 and on my main PC its awesome for just driving around. Problem is I got it for my nephews laptop which is a C2D 6600 with an ATI 4650 mobile GPU. And even with everything pretty much turned off the game runs like total crap. I can't believe how slow it is. And this game is like 3 years old. I've got all the patches for it too. Does GTA4 usually run crappy?

You sort of can in Arma II. Your truck/apc/tank has limited gas and you either need to find a gas station in the towns or a fuel truck and it works just by being near one for long enough.

Great game if you want to take various military vehicles for a spin.

Yes. It should play pretty well on the rig in your sig though.

We also should have mentioned Just Cause 2. HUGE area to explore. You can drive around, or fly around if you wish.
