Game help...... {Solved} Thanks!

Ok my ISP was down and my son tried starting up tribes.. The game would start then minimize when it could not connect.. Well he would try again with the same results.. problem was that after doing this about 9 times the computer froze up.

Anyway Now any games that use Open GL just die or when they load everything is in slow motion.. Anyone know how to reload the open gl stuff.. Games that wont work.. Tribes. Quake 3 MDK2 Demo. Sometimes it will take the mouse pointer several minutes to get to the other side of the screen..
I can run 3d mark 2000 all day and final reality. With no problems..

I have deleted and loaded new video drivers.. Reloaded the games, Didn't help...

I have been putting off fixing this for a while but now it is time.. Any advice appreciated..

Have you tried reloading DirectX. Also throw me a bone (ie...system specs)!

Well you just have to download it and and run the setup. Download here.
I'll try to keep an eye on this forum for you if you need more help. I am an avid Tribes player so I know the addiction. What OS are you using?

Running Win 98 first

Here is what I did today.. Went in and deleted the drivers for the video card in safe mode. Went to add remove programs and uninstalled anything to do with the card..

I restarted and installed reference drivers Version 5.32 For the TNT2.. I then downloaded and installed Direct X8...

I then tried to start Quake 3 and here is the error message it gave.. GLW - Start open GL () - Could not load open GL subsystem..

Thanks for the help so far but this thing has stumped me...

Chris have you tried installing the reference drivers from Nvidia?
If not try that you can get them here.

have u tried just ditching open gl and using Direct 3D? To change the rendering, u'll have to get into your games setup... i believe quake 3, as well as unreal tournament, have "safe modes" where u can adjust the display rendering before starting the game, i'm not sure about tribes, however. Good luck

I reloaded Nivida Reference driver 5.32 and it did not help.., Sandra says that I dont have open GL installed.. ????

Is that not part of the driver? I have used two sets of drivers and they both do the same thing.. Creative drivers and Nividia...

Hey chris check to see what the monitor is set for. If its on default, change it to the actually monitor or use the pnp drivers included with windows.

The monitor is on plug and play.. It has detected the monitor correctly.. I will try a new set of drivers this weekend for the card to see what I get..

You definately have a driver problem, and not a directX problem. BTW, Quake III is opengl only.

How far did you go with deleting the old drivers? Just deleting the files sometimes isn't far enough.

Ok, here's the word that scares everybody....regedit. Sometimes it is neccessary to go into to the registry and delete anything associated with the video drivers.

Go here to see what you have to do. I go even futher to make sure there isn't anything left, but i couldn't possibly remember all the keys and values. So far I haven't destroyed my registry.

It is also known that if you previously had any 3dfx stuff intstalled, their leftover files can cause problems with nvidia drivers.

The 2.08 reference drivers worked the best with my old CL TNT2.

OK with some help from some real cool people I was able to get this problem fixed..

Here is what did it.



<< 1. Edit your WIN.INI.
2. Look for the line &quot;DVA=0&quot;
3. Put a semicolon ( so the line reads &quot;;DVA=0&quot; (less quotes)
4. Save the file.
5. Problem Solved!
if this makes more probs, just re-edit your win.ini file!
(to edit system files, run sysedit from Startmenu\run type: sysedit)
