Hasn't it seemed for a couple years as though the series is heading toward Jon Snow and Dragon Queen getting married and ruling?

The title of the book series is 'a song of ice and fire', apparently referring to them.

I've just started season 7, and it seems very much on the same track, wiping out secondary characters as always, putting Snow and her together where the relationship starts.

And it's very much following that plan - they wouldn't just have it be 'love at first sight', it'd have to have some conflict, take some time.

So they're bickering over whether he has to submit to her, whether to deal with the undead - he refuses to submit, and she doesn't feed him to the dragons as a 'rebel'. But gives him dragonstone mining.

The blip on the story doing that was the cliffhanger where Snow was killed - but no, he was back.

Pretty much all her allies just got killed, leaving Snow.

Oh, and of course, she dumped her boy toy before sailing, making her conveniently available.

Seems pretty clear that while nearly all the characters can be killed, she and Snow are the ones who won't, speeding toward the climax of the series as they conquer the rest.

And this whole 'dragonstone' thing almost feels like a Kryptonite cheat, building up the threat for seasons where they appeared unstoppable and now surprise, they can be defeated.

Of course that wasn't common knowledge... why would anyone keep track of that?

First rule of GoT -- if the trajectory seems obvious, then it more than likely will not happen.

Buckle up, buttercup.

I think the white walkers should win, and everyone dies. Just snuffed out like candles as evolution takes it next step.

That would leave so many people angry, but it is a possiblity in the GOT universe.. lol

That was more a rule for the first half of the show. The 2nd half has gone away from this towards more typical fantasy writing (aka we can generally tell who the plot armor characters are now).

That. A lot of characters that looked like they'd be around for the end are gone and I'd bet that one or the other of Jon and Dany will croak before it's all over. They might unite and boink like bunnies and be allies for the big last fight against the dead, but they won't both make it through. Tyrion and Arya are likely to be around til near the end too and yet it wouldn't be surprising if neither one is.

Right. It was all a matter of establishing the actual primary characters for the plot. Now that we have them, they are able to survive freezing to death and drowning in frozen lakes, actual stabbings-to-death, savage beatings and stabbings and falling off of mountains with broken limbs, eviscerations, etc etc, whereas before it was just a stupid little spear, or boar, or crossbow bolt, or multiple stabbing, or weak-ass poisoning, or decapitation that would end them.

But we can all successfully predict the ice dragon will appear in the teaser and the next episode?

I do agree it probably will not be a 'Snow and dragon queen happily ever after' ending - but it seems they'll likely be the two key characters whatever happens, and somehow join forces to resolve this 'seven kingdoms in conflict with a northern king' issue.

But perhaps the story will evolve to have her continue to downplay the threat from the north, at great cost. Another element that isn't clear is what will happen with Cersi's planned attack on the dragons, when the dragons seem a natural element for the later fight against the undead. They can't really get killed off by Cersi, they're too central. Maybe 1 or 2 can.

Having to wait two years for season 8 is pissing me off more than I already was at the show and GRRM. I'm starting to think another book will never see print either. And they are already talking about a prequel, leaking possible spoilers, and want me to get excited about it?

There's a point when enough unfulfilled promises are enough. I'm a huge GoT fan, sitting here with a miniature toy Long Claw and Hounds Helmet on my desk, but anticipation alone doesn't keep me warm at night. Winter is coming? Winter is here? Pffttt!

Marriage between aunt and nephew I guess it would fit with the series.

She's his aunt? First I heard.

From Episode 7x05

“What does annulment mean?” Gilly asked a preoccupied Samwell as she read the diary of High Septon Maynard. An impatient Sam explained it means terminating one marriage so you can wed another person. Gilly goes on to say that the annulment Maynard describes is for a “Prince Raggar,” who married a second wife in a secret ceremony in Dorne

Combine with the info from the end of the last epoisode regarding Jon Sand....

OP said he just started season 7, so...things have not been revealed to him. OP: be aware that season 7 is already one year old and starting this thread is going to lead to spoilers for you.

Yeah. When it gets revealed that Tyrion is really a Faceless Man sent to kill Jon and that Cersei has 5 secret dragons of her own it's really a game changer. I'd hate to find that out in advance.
