From the show Jamie does not know and it looks like he came alone. I do believe he comes alone in the books as well but its been a few years since I read them so my memory is foggy.

I think he brings his mercenaries both in book and show. Difference is in the books it is the stormcrows not the second sons.

He did, but he was part of a different mercenary group, the stormcrows. The second sons are commanded first by Mero and then by Brown Ben Plumm. It appears the two mercenary troops have been merged in the show.

From a show perspective, there are just some necessary changes unless they added some type of narration to explain all the details. Too much happens in the book outside of dialogue or action sequences.

I don't think they merged them, just switched things around abit. I'm guessing when Dany gets to Meereen, the Stormcrows will be there, and will be lead by Brown Ben Plumm.

They also switched around the wildling tribes. The Thenns were the most advanced tribe in the books, but in the show they seem to be the most savage.
