That kind of my point, they intentionally put in many possibilities, some of which are there just to keep you guessing. I was just going off on the gem because it seems to be a popular theory. If you go the pie route as the poison it opens the door to an unknown baker or Margaery, which is possible but less likely imo. They spent a lot of time on the necklace.
There were at least 3 brief scenes that showed the missing gem, if you knew to look for it.
The producers might be doing their own thing with the story.
They have stated in interviews that they do know the main plot points from the author of the source material but they aren't obligated to follow it exactly since they are two different mediums and things that work well in one might not work so well in the other.
They have made very cool changes in details while still hewing to what is out already, as time goes on I expect the changes to increase... which isn't concerning to me at all since the producers really are fans bringing the material to a new audience and presenting it in a new way to other not so new fans.
One thing I did like was Ned Stark (in episode 9 of season 1) catching sight of Arya kneeling under the statue of Baelor and then saying the statue's name to Night's Watch "recruitment officer" Yoren.
Yoren then stops Arya from committing suicide trying to stop the execution. It's really cool because one of the last things Ned Stark looks for before Ice comes down is Arya, but she's no longer near the statue.
"Speculation" isn't a spoiler until someone says it is though. So they technically have to be dealt with privately, and even then, if you see "speculation" in a post, that is later removed, this means it is a spoiler. So "speculation" can't actually be dealt with other than people telling the person "speculating" to stop doing it.
I suspect that this will be a moot point soon enough as the HBO version is moving along at a good pace.
