I thought that Tywin's talk with Tommen to be very good.
The last point
Wisdom - Listen to your advisers until you gain wisdom and a wise kings continues to listen their advisors.

Tywin is smart and wise but he cannot be king (even though of everyone he would probably be the best king)
Dany story arc is following that advise.

The list of people that know Bran and Rickon are alive is short:
Bran
Rockon
Osha
Hodor
Meera
Jojen
Theon
Ramsay
Sam

Jon's not on that list. Assuming he recognized the two direwolves he likely just assumed they were on their own after his brothers' deaths.

Of course, considering the timing of when they left the Wall, he might not actually know they're dead (except Sam seemed to know that in Season 3).

Jon has no knowledge of what happened at Winterfel since his father was beheaded and Rob went to war. He has no knowledge of Theon's betrayal and the "killing" of Bran + Rickon. He could only assume that they were alive, as he has no knowledge of them being dead.

(I still think the fact that she quickly put 3 arrows in him influenced his decision to flee)

Oh--I think some of us are referring to the larger fight, where he did flee before she tracked him down and turned him into a pin cushion? Yeah, I think there he noticed the wolves, but also knew it was his best chance to warn the Nightwatch and fulfill his duty.

In the larger fight, one of the wolves saves Jon. He has to notice something is up, although he might not realize right away that it was Shaggy Dog or Summer. And, there was no way to realize it was Bran controlling it.

This season appears to be all about putting the pieces into their places. Dany and Stannis are gathering their armies and Dany is raising her dragons. The Black Watch is preparing to meet the Wildings. Kings Landing is putting its political and economic affairs in order, plus seeking out and making alliances to protect itself from its enemies. The "travelers" like Arya and Bran are on journeys of personal exploration and growth to prepare them for their parts in the coming battles and as adults. The White Walkers seem to be preparing for the coming of winter and their attack on the kingdoms of men.

I can see how that is not as exciting as the battles fought in previous seasons. While in the end we will see how this was all necessary it doesn't mean it makes for exciting television. So, outside of some sideshow conflicts until the pieces are in place I think we will hear more complaints about this season. It will hopefully begin to move into the next phase before the season ends, and not leave us with the big things to come next season.

That's why I am a little confused about the scene with Sam. I can't remember if he knew they were supposed to be dead in that scene and Bran told him not to tell Jon they were alive (which is how I remember it) or if Sam just recognized them as Jon's brothers and Bran told him not to tell Jon they were headed north of the wall.

"now"?

off the top of my head, there was a big rape scene in Season 1 (Daenerys/Khal Drogo) and the attempted-rape of Sansa in Season 2.

This. I think the reason there's more "outrage" over the most recent rape scene is because it was Jaime, who was played up as being on the road to redemption and turning into the hot blonde deep-voiced comeback kid that female audiences love.

Basically the character made a lot of female viewers wet and then "betrayed" them by raping his sister and showing that he was, in fact, still a douchebag; like essentially every adult on the show.

I don't know. I didn't even know this sparked any controversy, but I think if people have issue with it, it wouldn't be cause they were jealous of the character, but because he raped his sister? :hmm:

Nights Watch, not black watch.

Not sure, but we might have to ban you from this thread, now, because I am afraid the temptation is too great for you.

I think it was that Bran was simply telling Sam not to tell Jon they were heading beyond the wall. Bran didn't know Theon had executed the two orphans (the Maester told Osha not to tell them, as Bran would blame himself for it), so he didn't know everyone believed them dead. Sam (as well as Jon) had not been back to Castle Black to even gain knowledge of what happened at Winterfel. They left shortly after Rob marched to war with the south.

I think Tywin could be king if he really truly wanted it. He could simply take the crown by force claim be damned and no one would be able to stand against him. His power base is just too strong and his connections too many. Any who resisted would quickly find themselves outmaneuvered and dead. But the thing is Tywin doesn't want to be king because he knows he's already running the show and is doing so with far lower risk. Kings drop like flies around here.

Nah, funny thing is I have no desire to post what I learned. I really don't understand how anyone would have the desire to post a spoiler. I am looking forward to seeing peoples reactions to what I know when they learn it from the show.

I guess I'm in the minority, because outside of King's Landing, I find Daenerys' storyline the most interesting (narrowly beating out the continuing adventures of Arya and the Hound). I don't care about Bran at all, I don't really care about Sam & Gilly or the Night's Watch vs. the Wildlings (although I'm sure that will pick up when the two sides actually meet in battle, which I'm assuming will happen relatively soon), I don't care about the Boltons or the Greyjoys (although that's another one that could get good if they meet in battle), and I really, really, really don't care about Stannis... What else is there? The show can't just be the political intrigue of King's Landing, they need something to break it up, and Daenerys' sacking of slave cities and increasing cabal of perpetual friend-zone military advisers is slightly more interesting to me than Arya and the Hound (as entertaining and informative as it is learning the proper etiquette for ordering chicken).

I'm with you, on most of those points.

That sucks; I've come close to clicking on it myself a couple of times. I'll have to be extra careful.

I thought Bran was awake and heard when he told her that? That's what I remember anyhow.

in fairness, Eddard Stark being raised as a zombie to kill off Rick Grimes is a pretty well-known spoiler.

I do most of my thread searching through the User CP. I neff enough to see most of the threads that interest me, anyway.

This prevents me from confusing such threads, as I would not have gone in there before.
