No kidding. I was all hyped for Robb's bold plan to take Casterly Rock while Tywin was away in King's Landing. The "oh shit" moment for me is when Caitlyn noticed Roose Bolton was wearing chain mail under his clothes and they started playing Rains of Castamere.

I didn't get the songs importance at the time. I didn't even understand what was going on until the first arrows were shot against the Starks. I thought Roose's chain mail could have been because at the last minute a plot was uncovered against parties unknown.

One of the differences about this show is their willingness to kill off key characters at any time. The status and circumstance of many people are always on a razors edge.

My friend came over and watched it shortly after. As soon as the doors closed, he said: "Oh. Everyone is about to get killed, right?"

your "friend"
Yes, "friend." Your jokes aren't really funny.

While Ichinisan (my brother) is single, Casey Witcher (our friend) is in a committed relationship with Jennifer Witcher (his wife). Insinuating that he has a same-sex "friend" that's more than a friend is a pathetic attempt at LOLs, if that's even what you were going for.

Eh, I think he was just digging at those who say "friend" when just trying to cover for their own comments/actions.

Not all of us know the inner workings of your familial relationships.

Because the other thread has been taken over by the whining about being banished from this one.

Ah. That figures. I'm not going to look there to find out. We show-watchers may as well be banished from that thread. I hope that makes it feel a bit more exclusive for the book readers among us.

I didn't know who the Bolton guy was at that moment. Just some other random Englishman #6 to me at that time. In the next episode, when he is talking to the old fart, I actually thought that was Stark's nephew--the incompetent shit that lucked out and married the hottie (Enlighsman #4--I still don't know his name; and he wasn't killed, right? Did we even see that?)

A lot of TV-connecting streaming devices support HBO Go. I already know you'd be opposed to Apple TV. Does anyone know if PS3 / Roku / Fire TV / Chromecast supports it?

Chromecast is only $35, by the way...

shit, someone gave me chromecast for lab (office to you people) secret santa (yeah--foreigner; they didn't get the concept of secret santa) and I have never had a reason to use it--was gong to give it to mom....

:hmm:

I believe the old pervert frey mentioned in a later episode that the guy whose wedding it was for is in prison so he should still be alive.

But yea we saw Bolton a few times before talking to the king alone so you figured he had to be one of the top guys of the north but he really doesn't get much screen time or background until then and after and wouldn't know much about him unless you had read the books.

PS3 and XBox 360 have HBO Go and I think Roku does as well. Amazon Fire TV is supposed to get it by the end of the year . HBO Go apparently supports ChromeCast via iOS, Andriod and Web apps: http://chrome.blogspot.com/2013/11/hbo-go-now-works-with-chromecast.html

Edit: PS3 just got HBO Go LAST MONTH. They are so freaking slow getting that app to new platforms. Good luck seeing it on PS4 or XBox One any time soon. Hope I'm wrong, but...

FUCK is that what the most recent obnoxious update was about? lol--I need to pull my head out of my ass.

As much as that guy sucks, I really, really like him. He's fucking hilarious, and rivals the casting of Tywin. His scenes, especially when he's introducing his female brood earlier in that episode, I couldn't stop laughing.

Good question, why do we need two threads?

Because some of us (e.g. me) will eventually read the books and would like to feel the full impact of all the extra GRR Martin detail that cannot be conveyed in the TV show when we read them and discover the differences ourselves. As I mentioned earlier, even if some event or character has already aired on TV (which already spoils the books to some degree), mentioning how it's different in the books doesn't spoil the TV show but it does spoil the books further for future readers. I avoid the other thread for this very reason. Reading a book is a very different experience, one that makes more intimate use of your imagination than an audiovisual medium like television or moving pictures. I'm going to visit my ex-wife soon and she has the books, so I plan to read the first two while I'm there.

We're not at all saying that people who have read the books cannot post in this thread. We're saying they cannot post stuff that is in the books; future stuff would spoil both the books and the show, but past stuff will still spoil the books.

What it sounds like then is there should be 10 separate threads for A Song of Ice and Fire in its various forms.

The TV show thread apparently can't mention that the books exist, even though the books are the source material and comparing them to the show is legitimate. But, posting about things that will happen in the books is a spoiler. And posting about things in the books that have happened is also allegedly a spoiler.

With that same logic, mention of the TV show shouldn't exist in the book thread at all since, while the books are currently ahead of the show, that may not always be the case and regardless, the books and show do vary, so posting about the show in the book thread would "spoil" the show for people who may not have seen it.

So, clearly, we need a thread dedicated to just comparing the books to the show, since neither the show thread nor the book thread can accommodate (using equivalent logic). That gives us 3 threads.

But in actuality someone who's only read some of the books or seen some of the seasons can't legitimately enter the show thread or the book thread, since that would "spoil" it. The only "equitable" result then is a thread for each season and a thread for each book. 5 books, 4 seasons plus a book/show comparison thread = 10 threads.

Anything less than that is a "spoiler!"

The guy is not contributing anything. He just keeps repeating the same things over and over again.. I have stopped replying to his nonsense. I told him to go to Moderator Discussions if he had a problem with there being two threads. In fact, he's one more post from being put on my ignore list.

Has he made a useful comment on the show? I can't remember it for all his whining about the two threads?
