mother's mercy
north of winterfell
the promised thaw has come, but so has plenty of bad news. stannis and his forces have completely crumbled.
castle black, pt 1
sam wants out. he's saying he'll be back as a trained maester for the night's watch. doesn't that take many years? yeah, see ya. "i'm glad the end of the world's working out for someone."
winterfell
stannis marches on to meet his fate. i
knew brienne would miss the candle by seconds. she carries out vengeance/justice in renly's name, and anyone that thinks stannis is still alive should get their head examined. lord of light, you are hereby known as lord of trolling. even your own priestess mellissandre is trolled right out the door. even as one of the few gods to manifest itself and demonstrate considerable power, you are the worst.
reek throws miss bitch of the castle wall - this looked really good! a similar wall to the one they then jump from to land outside. you can be sure they survive this escape attempt since their deaths here would be completely anticlimactic. whether or not they escape, who knows?
goodbye, stannis! you were OG and the last of the hardliners. you got screwed by your brother, your claim of inherited rule is mostly bogus, your navy got nuked right out of a harbor, and you got strung along by the god of trolling to the point you burned your own little girl at the stake. but you never stopped believing in yourself. i'm reminded of that poster of a kitten hanging from a branch or something, with the caption "hang in there, baby!". what a stupid fucking poster.
mereen, pt1
arya's takedown of meryn trant is awesome! but she was way out of line as far as the faceless men are concerned. "that man's life was not yours to take." really? this scene does reinforce for arya and the viewer that our thinking of who is who does not apply to the faceless men.
dorne
when ellaria plants a big, wet one on myrcella, i knew it was poison. it's even all over the girl's lips in the next shot. the scene aboard the ship is very important - this is the first time jamie admits to anyone, including himself, that the 3 kids were his, and myrcella is more loving and understanding than he could hope. and then the poison kicks in and she's dead. the use of a fast-acting poison makes no sense here, and another tiny vial of super-quick antidote makes sure ellaria doesn't miss a beat. hopefully she and the sand snakes get the axe soon.
mereen, pt2
just like we called it...
meanwhile, back at the hall of good guys "whew, that was a close one!" i did like the 1st half of their exchange, but it kinda petered out once grey worm and that chick came in.
"hello, old friend." yes! the snappy comments duo is back in action! afaik, in the book varys is gone once he gets tyrion on the ship.
dothraki-controlled ireland
i have no idea why danerys looks wrecked, she didn't do any fighting or crash her car in a ditch or anything. the dragon is pretty wasted too, but he'll be back. suddenly shitloads of dothraki appear out of nowhere - time to hide the jewelry! i expect her to be rescued by at least 1 dragon making a buffet out of that dothraki horde.
king's landing
cersei knows the only way out of that cell is to play the game. despite her previous claims, she will not admit to jamie. the walk of shame is pretty bad, but not "carrying a crucifix" bad. still, this is an uptown girl we're talking about. the one thing that gives her the strength to continue is the sight of home. once she makes it through the gates, she's greeted by a clearly zombified mountain. "...until all his grace's enemies are dead..." and we now resume normal programming.
castle black, pt2
davos is preaching for the lost cause when mellisandre rides in. she's as shell-shocked by the lord of trolling as anyone else.
olly has news about uncle benjin. the news is that olly sucks. the night's watch have completed turning against jon snow, since he was too focused on the big picture to deal with the small picture. olly delivering the final blow was kinda redundant, he effectively did it when he lured jon out. i was expecting "et tu, olly?"

Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have. They sat me down and said, “This is how it is.” If anything in the future is not like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David and Dan and George’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.
goodbye, jon snow! we pour one out for another OG. in your time to covered the entire spectrum - physical and emotional, comedy and tragedy, hero and (sorta) villain, puppet and leader, lover and warrior, chump and badass. will we ever learn who jon's parents were?
