Generally speaking, a leader who is intentionally murdered by his own men is not an effective leader. He may have been a decent man, but so was Ned Stark, and look where that got him. Jon Snow was an idealistic imbecile who completely misjudged the honor and integrity of the people around him.

Daenerys has made many more poorer decisions than Jon did and she is bulletproof apparently.

I'm guessing Dany (re?)uniting with a Dothraki hoard is just a way to help hasten the pace of her advance toward Westeros. Hell, in 5 seasons she's barely moved. They need to somehow propel her over there and start wrapping shit up.

She will now have the 2nd sons, the unsullied, some dothraki's, and some larger dragons.

Maybe with the Boratheon's cleared out, she can set up shop on Dragonstone and start pummeling Kings Landing from there.

She's also had a fair number of advisers and protectors murdered around her, and if not for intervention by dragon, she'd be dead as well. Dragon is a good trump card to mutiny. Jon should have invested in some dragons.

Jon bucked the system too much. He broke nearly every part of the vows, and let the Wildlings in. He was the what 998th Lord Commander? That's a long time for those traditions. The rebellion was inevitable given those circumstances.

That said, the Wall wasn't built to keep the Wildlings out, and Jon wasn't the first LC to make peace with them. But those details have been lost to antiquity. I like the realism of that.
yeah, I was shocked.
thought Alliser had more integrity than that.

I doubt he betrayed snow 'for the watch'

thought Dothraki are not good on ships?
ie: sea sick

she could leave the Dothraki to keep hold of mareen and have unsullied/2nd sons in Westeros.

btw- wheres the rest of the 2nd sons?
why didn't a few of them go w/the 2 to find dany?

It's not like she got kidnapped; she rode one of her dragons to safety. It's similar to the time Queen Elizabeth II absconded with a tank from the BAF and went joyriding through Leeds. Did they send the entire Army after her? Of course not. Send a car round with a viscount to pick her up and everything is back to normal.

Well before John left Allister told him point blank that he was disgracing the Knight's Watch, and when he came back he said he though John's alliance with the wildlings would get them all killed. Right or wrong, if that's what he thinks then I can easily see him betraying John "for the watch". The ceremonial way in which it was carried out also hints that this has been done before, likely as an extreme measure when a Lord Commander proved traitorous or cowardly.

That said, I'm wondering how the dumbshits of the watch are planning to hold off tens of thousands of ravenous undead with 50 men and no wildlings (who will certainly tell them where to stuff it after John's execution). Maybe they still don't believe they exist?

The bow and arrow chick seemed pretty out of place to me, too.

I can see him coming back. The undead ice commander seemed to take some special interest with Jon Snow when he was fighting the lesser commander in the battle at the end of episode 9, and then again right at the end when he rose the army back up.

He only took interest in Jon Snow after he witnessed Jon kill a white walker with his Valeryan steel sword. At least that's all it seemed to imply.

Dude... seriously... quit bitching like a whiny little scamp and report me if you have a problem with it.

Shouldn't have to do that. By then, it has already been spoiled. There's another thread you should be posting in. You should ignore this one.

obvious answer to Jon Snow being dead or alive:

they're shooting Season6 right now.

is the actor playing jon snow seen in any of the shoots?

The answer to this would be an obvious spoiler.

someone[an idiot] posted an article earlier in this thread.

I did the moment you posted it, you blathering idiot.

Stop trying to defend the indefensible. You are only making it worse for yourself.

It couldn't be more clear that the information you came into our thread with is EXACTLY what we don't want to know and then you tried to act like you didn't understand when you got called out on it and tried to baselessly bitch back. Who is the "whiny little scamp" again?

mother's mercy

north of winterfell
the promised thaw has come, but so has plenty of bad news. stannis and his forces have completely crumbled.

castle black, pt 1
sam wants out. he's saying he'll be back as a trained maester for the night's watch. doesn't that take many years? yeah, see ya. "i'm glad the end of the world's working out for someone."

winterfell
stannis marches on to meet his fate. i knew brienne would miss the candle by seconds. she carries out vengeance/justice in renly's name, and anyone that thinks stannis is still alive should get their head examined. lord of light, you are hereby known as lord of trolling. even your own priestess mellissandre is trolled right out the door. even as one of the few gods to manifest itself and demonstrate considerable power, you are the worst.

reek throws miss bitch of the castle wall - this looked really good! a similar wall to the one they then jump from to land outside. you can be sure they survive this escape attempt since their deaths here would be completely anticlimactic. whether or not they escape, who knows?

goodbye, stannis! you were OG and the last of the hardliners. you got screwed by your brother, your claim of inherited rule is mostly bogus, your navy got nuked right out of a harbor, and you got strung along by the god of trolling to the point you burned your own little girl at the stake. but you never stopped believing in yourself. i'm reminded of that poster of a kitten hanging from a branch or something, with the caption "hang in there, baby!". what a stupid fucking poster.

mereen, pt1
arya's takedown of meryn trant is awesome! but she was way out of line as far as the faceless men are concerned. "that man's life was not yours to take." really? this scene does reinforce for arya and the viewer that our thinking of who is who does not apply to the faceless men.

dorne
when ellaria plants a big, wet one on myrcella, i knew it was poison. it's even all over the girl's lips in the next shot. the scene aboard the ship is very important - this is the first time jamie admits to anyone, including himself, that the 3 kids were his, and myrcella is more loving and understanding than he could hope. and then the poison kicks in and she's dead. the use of a fast-acting poison makes no sense here, and another tiny vial of super-quick antidote makes sure ellaria doesn't miss a beat. hopefully she and the sand snakes get the axe soon.

mereen, pt2
just like we called it...
meanwhile, back at the hall of good guys "whew, that was a close one!" i did like the 1st half of their exchange, but it kinda petered out once grey worm and that chick came in.

"hello, old friend." yes! the snappy comments duo is back in action! afaik, in the book varys is gone once he gets tyrion on the ship.

dothraki-controlled ireland
i have no idea why danerys looks wrecked, she didn't do any fighting or crash her car in a ditch or anything. the dragon is pretty wasted too, but he'll be back. suddenly shitloads of dothraki appear out of nowhere - time to hide the jewelry! i expect her to be rescued by at least 1 dragon making a buffet out of that dothraki horde.

king's landing
cersei knows the only way out of that cell is to play the game. despite her previous claims, she will not admit to jamie. the walk of shame is pretty bad, but not "carrying a crucifix" bad. still, this is an uptown girl we're talking about. the one thing that gives her the strength to continue is the sight of home. once she makes it through the gates, she's greeted by a clearly zombified mountain. "...until all his grace's enemies are dead..." and we now resume normal programming.

castle black, pt2
davos is preaching for the lost cause when mellisandre rides in. she's as shell-shocked by the lord of trolling as anyone else.

olly has news about uncle benjin. the news is that olly sucks. the night's watch have completed turning against jon snow, since he was too focused on the big picture to deal with the small picture. olly delivering the final blow was kinda redundant, he effectively did it when he lured jon out. i was expecting "et tu, olly?"

Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have. They sat me down and said, “This is how it is.” If anything in the future is not like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David and Dan and George’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.

goodbye, jon snow! we pour one out for another OG. in your time to covered the entire spectrum - physical and emotional, comedy and tragedy, hero and (sorta) villain, puppet and leader, lover and warrior, chump and badass. will we ever learn who jon's parents were?

Dragon > wolf, as you'd expect. I guess ghost was licking his balls or something, Drogon was on point.

You know what? Screw the knight's Watch and whole of Westeros!

I am on the White Walkers side in that I hope they destroy Westeros.

I am backing Tyrion and his crew in the East.

Just leave the thread already, no one wants to hear about what has or hasn't happened in the book. It's a simple rule, no idea why you feel the need to walk that line.

it would make sense.

Dorne was allied with the Targeryeans during Robert's Rebellion, which is how this whole mess got started when Elia Martell, married to the Crown Prince, was raped and murdered by the Mountain during the fall of King's Landing.

Doran Martell would be Danaerys' uncle in law? or something like that.

Yes, that's a good point - their alliance was ripped away by the sacking of Kings Landing and could be renewed.

Doran's younger sister Elia was married to Danaery's older brother Rhaegar. So he is her brother-in-law, sort of.

By the way, people who had concerns about the earlier poisoning episode, it's now clear how that scene made to poisoning of the girl flow much more smoothly in the show.

It established 'oh ya, they do that' and how the poison works. So it let the show do it smoothly.

My best guesses for next season:
- Jon Snow is revived. His death and resurrection make him the perfect savior character and can be cause for him to shed his naive thinking regarding his enemies.
- Stannis lives.
- Sansa and Theon escape and meet up with Brienne and Stannis. They all head to the Iron Islands.
- Bran learns how to warg into dragons.
- Dany hopefully dies. I'm so tired of her story - always drama, but never any real progression. Bran becomes dragon boy.
- Arya completes her training, still blind. I don't like this, as I'd prefer that she get revenge, but this is GRRM we're talking about.
- Jaime's daughter lives because Bronn got some antidote from the terrible sand snake actress. They still bring the Dornish prince back to Kings Landing and execute him.
- Cersei demands a trial by combat and The Mountain fights for her. The Hound lives and fights for the Faith Militant. Whoever wins, we lose.
- Cersei murders a ton of people behind the scenes. I suspect the woman Inquisitor was only introduced so that she can die instead of the High Sparrow.
- Tyrion becomes the de facto leader of Meereen.
- Gendry keeps rowing.
