Pretty big book spoiler! I wonder what they will do will Tyrion's injury at the end? Surely he is not going to lose his nose in the TV series. I haven't read beyond the beginning of SoS yet so I'm not sure how relevant it is to future events.

It's a fairly important part of the story but I could see them changing it a bit from the book to keep costs down.

Yeah, they'll change it to make it easier to film and less disgusting. He'll probably lose an eye and have to wear a patch or get some gnarly forehead-to-chin scar.

Liam Cunningham is only 50. Davos has 7 sons, four of them grown, and are sailors. He had been a smuggler for 20 years, and then served Stannis since Robert's rebellion 14 or 16 years ago. Davos was far from a young man.

Stannis on the other hand was Robert's younger brother. He was only in his early 30's. The actor playing him is 55.

So the actor playing Davos is the right age or younger than the character, while the actor playing Stannis is more than 20 years older than the character.

Yeah, I guess you're right about the ages now that you mention it.

Kind of hard to believe Robert let himself go that bad in 15 years though. I guess everyone thinks that in the books when they see him though.

Caitlin is to old though. I think the actress playing her is like 49 or something. In game of thrones she is wondering about having another child or two before Ned dies.

enter simply any character's name into google and you will find quite a few wiki's, including the official one that discuss the books and TV series in detail complete with spoilers galore. This is where many are getting their info here to begin with.

I agree about Catelyn. She does look kind of old to have a 5 year old son. She looks more like Rickon's grandmother, than mother.

Another noticeable age discrepancy is Margaery who was 15 in the books. Natalie Dormer is 30. That's just not going to seem right later on.

HBO has updated their Viewer's Guide for season 2. This includes territory maps with the 4 competing kings (Joffrey, Robb, Renly, Stannis) and a guide to all the houses.

Stannis is Robert's OLDER brother. C'mon man, the books make a huge deal out of that.

From the books, Robert was born 263AL, Stannis 265AL, and Renly 278AL. They refer to Stannis as Robert's oldest brother in comparison to Renly, not meaning he was older than Robert.

Stannis Baratheon is the elder of Robert Baratheon's younger brothers. He served on his brother's small council as Master of Ships, and was also Lord of Dragonstone. After the death of Robert, he styled himself king of the Seven Kingdoms as Robert's heir, though he has difficulty getting support for his claim

Correct

Robert > Stannis > Renly

I think a lot of the confusion stems from the way Stannis acts in the books. While Robert was portrayed as a guy who loved his food and drink and whores and going out hunting Stannis was the guy who sat alone brooding like an angry curmudgeon. Robert was like an overgrown frat boy and Stannis seemed like Ebeneezer Scrooge.

Also, in that game of thrones wiki, Stannis is referred to as the oldest brother of Robert Baratheon, which is true, but sort of confusing.

How'd you miss this in the books you were mentioning making a big deal of it the other way around?

no, its not really that important at all...

Stannis is Renly's older brother. Robert was the oldest Baratheon, that's why he was crowned king.
Even though Robert was indeed the eldest, it didn't really matter in that regard because Robert was the one who basically took the power effectively leading the rebellion against the Targaryens. Its that fact that leads Renly to believe he can take power as king even though he is younger than Stannis

Robert gave Renly much better land and holdings then Stannis. He is in a position of much more power.
