what i find frustrating about the show is the lack of time reference. sometimes months go by (jaime was captured a year ago), and in this season most episodes have been consecutive days, or maybe just 2 days total (roz talks to varys in s03e03, joffrey kills her in the same clothes in e06). wtf is going on?

after littlefinger's "chaos is a ladder" speech, was anyone else reminded of babylon 5's mr. morden?

I think it'd be more jarring and distracting to the viewer if they did that. And it doesn't matter so much. In the books, all the Stark kids are much younger.

Castle black.

They need to do it so they can get past the wall then they made it sound like they plan on attacking more of the kingdom to take over land.

The whole goal of the wildings is to get the F out of Dodge. To get south of the wall to escape the white walkers.

True but in the latest episode they talked about reclaiming their land also.

It's just the easiest way is the tunnel by castle black as there are other ways on the other ends of the wall but I believe this was the closest / easiest way compared to the others.

snow is with the small party to attack castle black and open the gates
mance is with the main wildling force waiting for the gates to open

It was a small group that did this.

The gate is heavily defended on one side so with a small group attacking from the other side they hope to open it to let in the main forces.

They climbed over it so the group can open the door from the other side.

Castle black is guarding the tunnel so with a small group they hope to open the door as attacking it from the other side is suicide.

IIRC, there aren't gates at each castle/fort along the wall. And tasking an entire army to scale up/down an unstable ice wall would be disastrous.
