lol @ you DnD nerds. Its always nice to know if you think you are a nerd there are people out there even nerdier.

I also didn't understand the love for Stannis. The guy is obviously a little more moral than Cersei, but it's plain to see that he'll do whatever it takes to gain the throne. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him die at Winterfell (to give his character a big F U) and have Jon take over Stannis's army to reclaim his homeland.

I didnt think much of him, but he had that great moment with his daughter and I came around to thinking he might be alright. But I was reminded that this show is filled with POSs. Pretty much however they were introduced is how they will be until they die. Unless they are top notch POS, then they will continue to live.

People complaining about Friend Zone's fighting style: He's also about 25 years older than everyone else in the competition.

He was lucky in the arena. The guy with the rapier was clearly the best. As with most of the fight scenes this season, they could have done better with it. He should have used some wily veteran move to beat the guy with the spear. That slow ass roll wouldnt have surprised anyone. The guy with spear was probably caught because he was laughing and saying "wtf was that shi......argh.."

Was disappointed in the way the show makes Stannis out to be a giant douche nozzle this episode. He's crazy, but not this crazy.

He's desperate. He sees Blackwater Bay all over again, last time he didn't take her and lost. He's losing again without her, the raid basically left him 2 choices: red woman, or lose.

Do you know how many slow ass rolls to stabs I've done in Dark Souls that worked? A ton! That shit is tried and true.

Also, Stannis is a religious fanatic, but with some cause. The Lord of Light has proven to be an ally and the Red Priestess claims Stannis to be his champion. He even explains how he must follow his destiny, regardless of whether he wants to or not or how painful it is.

It's so weird going back and watching a season 1 episode, back when the show was chock full of characters we all liked. Now it's battles and endless fighting amongst parties we all despise, and we must choose the "lesser of two (sometimes 3) evils" to hope to win.

Which is what makes the show unlike any other!

I was hoping we'd see the reemergence of The Mountain - if you recall, we were led to believe that one of the maesters was working on him in the dungeon...hoping he makes a reappearance in the season finale.

Has everyone forgotten all of the other terrible shit Stannis has done?

End of last season and this season up until last night he was playing the part of noble leader. It actually seemed like his character was changing. I actually expected him to side with his daughter against Melisandre. Its not about liking Stannis, but more for wanting someone to step up and start putting down some of these aholes.

The problem is Melisandre has shown her god to be real. She has used magic (shadow baby and such), so it isn't like Stannis is running on blind faith. He has two choices: starve to death in the snow or follow the Lord of Light.

Interesting theory I've heard is that Cersei will request a trial by combat and The Mountain will fight for her. I'm unsure if the High Sparrow will allow a trial by combat, however.

Yeah, but I was still hoping he'd find another way.

Not really a Maester, since he did some experiments that got him expelled....

This EP was 58 minutes of a girl screaming in complete agony and 2 minutes of a flying dragon. Spoiler btw.

Stannis' approval rating plummeted more than a politician caught with a dead hooker in his trunk. Good lord.

He has fans now because he's the closest thing we have to a hero we have currently actively going for the throne. When you have him going against the Boltons (whom most people view as a villains) it's easy to start thinking he's a fair and just person. It's only when we're shown he really will do whatever it takes to rule, that people's perceptions are thrown for a loop. As it stands, even with the really brutal scene, he's still the best hope people have for a good King. Again.. that's actively going for the throne.

Do you know how many slow ass rolls to stabs I've done in Dark Souls that worked? A ton! That shit is tried and true.

I'm still not sure I view him as a fanatic. I still see him more as a person that's willing to do, or partner with whatever it'll take to get him the throne he wants. I can't help but feel if the LoL was in his way he'd flip his tune.

Not understanding why Stannis couldn't have waited for word from castle Black that they had rescued a sizable wildling population, all who have lived in the cold and were acclimated to the environment already. Then, he could have augmented his army with them with promise of the north behind the wall.

Nope, let's make a rash decision and burn our daughter at the stake mere hours after sending away the hand to get support from castle Black, now awash with fighting men and women (and a giant) to augment his army.

There were a few here who said he was growing on them and endorsed him after he stood up for his daughter earlier in this season.

I don't think he really expected anything back, he just sent off the Onion Knight because he knew the connect he had to his daughter. It was already decided to burn her prior to sending off Davos, so it does not matter. He will probably get word now and maybe feel some regret. We'll see.

They made it clear that free folk will not fight for any king. Besides, Jon promised them that already and said that they only had to help defend the wall from the white walkers and wights.

The Night's Watch will not get involved in any of the wars of the kings. They protect the wall, and a much larger fight is upon them. Stannis knows this and mislead Davos into thinking he was "commanding" help. He was merely ridding his camp of the only person willing to stand up to Stannis and the red witch. Davos wouldn't have allowed him to burn his daughter, hell he even didn't allow him to burn the bastard.

Martin seems to like killing off favorite characters. I guess that's a nice change from the standard Hollywood bullshit we're used to but after a while it becomes almost formulaic.

The arena sequence I thought was particularly disappointing.
Sure, it was a lot of fun when Drogon comes in and cooks half of the attackers. And who wouldn't love the shot of Daenerys flying away on her dragon. But come on. Who couldn't have seen that coming a mile away. Once they were surrounded it was obvious what was going to happen next.

I don't mean to piss on the show since in most respects I really do like it. Tyrion is one of the most fascinating characters I've seen in a while. But sometimes it comes off as being a bit contrived.

I agree with this. And I also know that this entire story is prolly going to go to Daenerys in the end. All the other cool stories are just filler for her eventual victory and living messiah ending. I don't enjoy her story at all. I may be one of the rare ones but I find myself rolling my eyes every time that section of story come on screen.

I was kind of hoping Stannis's daughter would have stood in the flames and not been burned. I don't full understand greyscale disease but I thought she had part dragon in her and that's what gave here those scales on her face. This season cleared up that confusion though.
