Pulling Threet for whatever reason definitely seemed to negate any momentum the Michigan offense had. Penn State's defense really stepped up though, and their offense stopped hurting themselves with mistakes. I don't think Michigan self-destructed in the second half, I think Penn State stopped their self-destruction from the first half.
