I thought it was, from articles last year & early this year, but a quick research showed Rockstar did not sign exclusive GameWorks, they worked with both AMD & NV to implement some vendor specific features and even label it as such..

What a good developer, compared to Ubifail.

Looks fine to me, unless you want to trust PClab.pl.

I'm reading on Reddit & OCN, Radeons are performing fine, CF scales great.

Game is very nicely threaded and release without massive bugs with good performance on both vendors. Not much more you could ask for since the game was designed for consoles originally. Rockstar has earnt respect by giving PC gamers plenty of options, heaps of extra IQ that consoles lack.

+1

Great sounding release, although I haven't read much about it yet. I wish I knew it wasn't going to be a gameworks game since the rumors pointed towards it (the little I saw). If it were another gimped gameworks game I would wait for the $5 deals to avoid promoting such practices. It's a must buy for me now knowing that they actually tried to optimize it for PC, didn't effectively gimp it by being sponsored to black box code, and it seems to work well on both sides. I need to read some reviews and verify it but based on the very little I've seen so far it looks promising.

Ubisoft could take a lesson from this and quit dropping the ball.

What software is being used to measure fps?

I left for work while it was downloading so at lunch time I might be able to get home and play a bit on my rig below. I'm interested to see how these 2 R9 290s in CF (1060core/1380mem) hold up. The octocore at 4.4Ghz should be fine.

There is a built-in benchmark. If you'd like to monitor your FPS, temps, VRAM usage, and more - use MSI Afterbutner with RTTS.

I'll wait for a couple of patches and see how AMD performance looks before giving them my money.

I wonder what the VRAM usage is for those running DSR or 4K displays? I'm almost tempted to disable SLI to test it out.

Edit: Went ahead and tested. Over 5 GB of VRAM use! Was still pulling >35-40 fps with a single Titan X:

And I hit almost 5.4 GB at 1440P with 8X MSAA with TXAA turned off using SLI. FPS was very playable at >60+ in city and around 45+ outdoors where there's tons of grass etc:

45fps with two Titan X's @ 1440p? Would you expect it to increase substantially if you went down to 4xAA? Thanks for your contribution BTW.

Yeah this game LOVES Vram. It's funny how so many people hate on the "Titan X has too much Vram" yet I'm pushing 8.2 GB+ at 1440P with this thing using Titan X SLI.

I am pushing 3.8 GB of ram used at 1920x1200 on my GTX 770 with all settings maximum.

What a pretty game. I've always loved the GTA graphics, even if I have to wait two generations to get acceptable frame rates. LOL

which card and what res. different reviews seem to have different results.

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...-angespielt-inklusive-benchmarks.html?start=2

pcgh manually max out the game without MSAA at 1080p and there a R9 290 / R9 290X is required for 1080p

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/GTA-5...219948/Tests/GTA-5-PC-Test-Benchmark-1156215/

I still have a 1080p monitor but I'll get a brand new 4k monitor with a single gpu (powerful) card. Still debating if SLI or CF are worth it.

VRAM usage looks really good actually for an open world game:

Dark blue is afterburner reported usage, light blue is what the game itself is reporting as used so afterburner is reporting more than actually used which is common. Congrats to rockstar (or whoever helped them with the port). Taking in multiple reviews it looks like on average 290x ~ 970 and the rest of the cards fall in line beneath that. No major hiccups on either brand from what I've seen (yet) either. Miles ahead of the GTA IV release.

The first graph shows a vanilla 7970 doing 42fps min and 50fps average for 1080p so you seem to be fine if anything you could overclock your gpu.

As for a single gpu to power 4k no such gpu is out yet.

i'm not talking 4k at medium details I mean on high on ultra.

A true next gen title

I am not sure I would go that far. It seems all GTA games get a pass because it's "GTA" and open world. GTA IV's graphics were pretty much crap from day 1 - the game really shines when modded though. While the graphics and draw distance are impressive for an open-world style game, when we gauge the graphics for any style game, they are not really that impressive. The character models, textures, animation do not look and feel next generation like say Star Citizen does.

I mean can we really compare the detailed characters/faces of Crysis 3 to this game? What about the amazing amount of foliage and world detail of the Witcher 3? This game was always designed for PS360 generation. Don't get me wrong, it did get a nice facelift on the PC and the game looks miles better than the console version, but this is not some Far Cry, Doom 3 or Crysis 1/3 moment in PC gaming, or even in regard to 2015 gaming. This game doesn't even come close to the graphics of Ryse Son of Rome or The Order: 1886 (or say what we've seen from the Uncharted 4 gameplay). Also, looking at the performance, it's MSAA and grass that's bringing down the performance a lot, not necessarily next generation high polygon count models or next gen physics effects.

By the time games like Just Cause 3 or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided come out on next gen game engines, I feel like this game will have aged a great deal. A true next gen PC game does not age fast (see Metro series, Crysis 1/3 series). Now this doesn't take away from the gameplay of GTA V but I do not find the graphics impressive at all -- in my opinion no one in this thread posted even a single screenshot that was jaw dropping. Maybe I am expecting too much out of next gen PC games? I mean compared to AC Unity and Watch Dogs, GTA V is awesome.

Glad to see the game is decently optimized and CF/SLI work well right out of the gate.

GTA V maxed out @ 5K w/ 2x MSAA + FXAA + 8x Reflection MSAA + TXAA:

Nice video and great performance on your cards! The lighting and road textures look great. This game is going to look spectacular once modded for years to come. Made me laugh during your driving and swimming portions.

4 GB video memory is useless at 4k although haven't tried it with new beta driver. I need 12GB GPU memory now!

I'm impressed with how well the engine takes advantage of multi threads. You just have to look at how well it scales. It's definitely not a powerhouse in the graphics dept but then again this title never was. The gameplay is what separates it from others.

I agree. However, the game has a consistent art style and the only thing that truly looks crap is beards, hair (in some cases) and skin. I don't know what is going on with those but I hope mods can sort them out. I think they deliberately went for a slightly more cartoonish look to the characters though.

The game needs to be commended on how many small details are everywhere. It also has rather good looking sea and lighting/shadows look good in many situations. I also like the use of depth of field in this game. It doesn't feel tacked on. It also runs remarkable well but I wish they had included SMAA as an option because FXAA is too blurry, MSAA+TXAA is even more so and MSAA is a huge performance hit. Oh well, added SMAA with ReShade and now my 970 SLI rig runs the game at 1440p like butter with almost maxed settings.

Wait wait wait wait wait....

In the recent interview they said a 7870 would be able to get you 60fps at 1080p, yet on your first benchmark it shows that using the standard textures the 7870 is pulling mid 30's. What's the deal with that? Are you telling me 7870 and 270x users are going to have to play with below standard settings in order to gain 60fps? Thats a joke, considering its the recommended system specs.

I agree. But look at these poor i3's . . . A stock 2500K performs still quite admirably.

Yup but plz dont say this gameworks game and it is not.

Meanwhile from a technical standpoint GTA V will be a GameWorks-enabled title, with developer Rockstar using NVIDIA’s Percentage-Closer Soft Shadows (PCSS) and TXAA technologies in the game.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9155/nvidia-releases-35012-game-ready-whql-drivers

Gameworks titles are clearly visbles in scores when cards are benched, dont waste your time marketing Nvidia cards as much better than they really are, just look where are the 780s.

I don't mind. It's a gameworks title so nvidia was always going to have the performance lead. My 290x will run it just fine.

Wither 3 is also gameworks so hopefully they don't cripple the amd cards too much.
