Then the game is meant for console people and they don't give a crap about PC. Its simple. Its plain. Its easy to understand and see.

Correct. Just like every other AAA title. PC games are second class citizens to the devs these days

+1

It's not actually that far out of line with other games using a similar engine:

280X > 970. id Tech engines just favor AMD. If settings are being automatically adjusted, that should be investigated, but I have a feeling that AMD is still going to end up ahead.

Geez, why did I upgrade from a 7970 GHz to a 970 last year? Lol.

The New Order and Rage were slower on AMD last time I checked. Maybe wolfenstein got better later on with newer drivers.

So different IQ in the test, 60FPS cap and no ability to select IQ settings manually. Super for benchmark

I like to call these 'bro, how much can you bench-marks', or simply 'bromarks' for short.
Flashy numbers, no substance.

AMD had (dunno if they fixed it) an OpenGL + fraps bug where FPS drops to half. Since those other games are OpenGL based, sites that use fraps to determine fps neuters AMD performance.

I had this in Homeworld Remastered, FPS literall cut in half with fraps overlay and benchmark.

I don't understand the capping of FPS though, what technical issues would there be for that? Unless the physics engine is tied to FPS (Bethesda style)..

Agreed. So much for the x86 consoles leading to this renaissance of PC gaming. All they did was just make it easier to make crappy ports. Maybe DX12??? But I am not holding my breath for that either.

AMD hardware perform so much better in synthetic benchmark. More evidence that many software arent optimally utilizing AMD's hardware. An 8 core fx losing to in tel dual core in single core game for example is completely due to handicap placed by the software.

Or maybe the engine is designed in a way that will result in poor sli compatibility/performance.

Really.. had no idea. That's good. Performance seemed terrible on the amd side for those games.

Well, running at a fixed framerate makes the game more predictable and deterministic. Basically it makes it easier to make a more polished game. But on pc, I still think you should support higher frame rates ideally.

SLI worked in doom 3 with my 6800GT's. If SLI doesn't work in this game then screw them. I bet some of you weren't even born yet when the Bogg was slaying demons with his dual 6800GT's, bithces.

All ID 3d engines tie FPS to physics. Its been that way since Quake 1. Thats why it was always vital to get as many FPS as possible with Quake World and Quake 3 Arena for multiplayer.

I am hoping for SLI/CF support on DOOM, and looking forward to the game itself. Hopefully it will come with good mod support, like the Doom games before it.

Beta requirements from Guru3D. First time seeing my old GTX 670's listed as a minimum requirement. That's crazy because those can still play the latest games at reasonable settings. I guess DOOM is all about buying them new generation cards and watching your bank account go BOOM empty!

Minimum Spec (720p)
Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
Intel Core i5-2400 or better / AMD FX-8320 or better
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 (2GB) or better / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB) or better
Up to 22GB HDD space
Steam account
Broadband internet connection

Recommended Spec (1080p)
Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
Intel Core i7-3770 or better / AMD FX-8350 or better
8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB) or better / AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB) or better
Up to 22GB HDD space
Steam account
Broadband internet connection

Gtx670 or HD7870. The 670 was two classes higher when lanched. The direct counterpart pricewise was the gtx660 back then. I am really glad that i decided on the hd7870 back then.

I was going to go with a gtx 670 but people here kept telling me the 7950 was a better choice. I don't even hear about the 600 series much here or Kepler in a good light but the 7950 us still chugging along for most users.

I think the rule of thumb applies for this game. Whatever they say is recommended for GPU, you need twice that much power for a decent experience. So if 970 is for 1080p, what you really need is at least an overclocked 980ti for 1080p at decent settings and framerate. I don't know why they have to lie, but they lie.

I doubt it. The recommendations are high probably because they intend the game to run at 60 fps.

I think this game was meant to run on either Pascal, or the R9 290 series or greater from AMD. Maxwell is performing a full generation behind AMD. They put the 970 as equal to 290. You will need an overclocked 980ti or a Pascal GPU to run this game. I bet the 980ti will be a decent 1080p card for this game, but 1440p will run like dog puke.

So your tying frame rate with game speed? Your brain must be permanently bound to pre-386 and real mode. The separation from CPU cycles determining game speed happened a long before Doom

And that's not 30fps btw

I've got bad news for you.

Fallout 4, and plenty of other console-first games like Arkham Knight and Dark Souls, tie the render loop to the game loop so that faster frames = faster physics.

In Dark Souls 2 on PC they "removed" the 30FPS cap, but by what I must assume is pure coincidence, weapons degraded in durability exactly 2x faster on 60 FPS PCs.
