Can someone confirm for me... because I can't tell in all honestly: Which side is #gamergate on?

Are the feminists on Gamergate side? Or against the gamergate side? I see both sides using the hashtag so I can't tell for the life of me.

Christina Sommers is a academic feminist and is for Gamergate. Liana K (whom I believe is more pro GG leaning, i'm not sure though you'll have to ask her) is a feminist.

To simply put: There are 2nd wave feminists who are upset of (what they believe) to be exploitation by 3rd wave feminists, vs 3rd wave feminists who are upset they're being challenged.

And maybe 1/3 was a bit of an overstatement. There are many women in the movement, but I can't say 1/3 as I don't really know the amount of supporters in it. All I can provide however is a collage of many women.

I hope you understand that a few people's pictures aren't really useful in determining the breakdown of gender in it.

I understand completely and that is on me for making a statement that it was 1/3. Nevertheless, there are women in the movement, which is what I should have just left at that in the beginning.

Well I would have to disagree with the pretty heavily male skewed part. There are many prominent women in gaming industry (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver director, for instance) though the only reason it can seem skewed is that they never really gain media attention.

A publisher only giving advance screening in exchange for favorable coverage is what most people would consider "wildly unethical." For Gamergate, "ethics" means "say what we want to hear or don't say anything at all." That's why their "ethics" complaints have almost exclusively focused on feminism. "I don't want to hear about it, therefore it's unethical to print it." I have seen the debate in the trade channels while in Stormwind.
First it was the christian girl trying to spread the gospel in trade telling people they are going to hell.
Then she was laughed at for picking a character whose main skill was stealing life from another being.... as if that was a christian thing to do then of course that made her shut up.

Then came the night elf male guy who could not stop talking about sexuality in trade chat and sexuality is not really even that much part of the game and he was banned because little kids were with their parents online at the moment and he did not have a clue.

Now the women were online and the gamer dudes were calling them out really as males who chose a female toon because of their inner identity is screwed up.

So it boils down to a lack of clarity on the parents part on the above which makes one grow up a tad more.


So yeah immaturity abounds when people play and try to make issues when no issue exists.

It doesn't change the fact that it is unreasonable to expect freedom of speech on a website. If the site operator decides they don't want something discussed, that's their prerogative. Fortunately it's pretty easy to set up new sites to allow what you want allowed.

I apologize for misrepresenting the founding of 8chan as being related to Gamergate. It's certainly been a haven for their discussions after GG talk was banned at 4chan. And in spite of reddit's censorship, the KIA subreddit continues to be one of the principal places for GG to communicate, yes?

As far as what I say getting on your nerves, what specifically are you referencing? Did I make other factual errors? I'm perfectly willing to own my mistakes. If you're just upset because I don't share your opinion, too bad. I've gone to the KIA subreddit and 8chan for myself to see what people are discussing and based on what I've personally seen discussed there, GG is not about ethics (a subject I do care about), it is about anti-feminism (a subject where I vehemently disagree with GG). I'm eager to discuss ethics, because it's an interesting topic, but when it's wrapped up in language about "the war on nerds" I have to call bullshit.
