I saw this advertised in this week's ad from BB at $119.99. I had heard about this only once before from a Best Buy Associate when purchasing my PS4. So, I was over on the CAG forums and they are talking about how some of the customer codes are valid through parts of February to join for $29.99 for people that were in the Games Club part of Rewards Zone in the past. Some of the CAG members are selling these codes for people interested in GCU as well through PayPal.

I called Reward Zone and talked to a very nice lady. I explained to her that I saw the ad and never received any type of notification of the extension in the email. I explained that I had been a RZ member and part of their Gamers Club and that I had subscribed to their Gamers magazine in the past. She looked up that I was a member and that I had ElitePlus status (spend $3500 a year at Best Buy). She got a coupon mailed to me, the one they sent out in November, to join the Gamers Club Unlocked program for $29.99.

The GCU gets you 20% off all new video games purchased at BB for the next two years.

I did not make this thread to brag but to help out anyone that is interested in saving money on new games. Best of luck.

If they sold it for $60 for 1 year I probably would have gave it a try, but I'm not willing to commit to it for 2 years.

In order for the 20% to work out in your favor you have to purchase at least 10 games (you save $12 per game). So, 5 games per year from Best Buy.

Five games a year will pay for it. I plan on purchasing more than five this year alone.

If you get the code like I did, from calling, the three Wii U games I bought the other day nearly paid for it.

i doubt i'd break even on something like that. i'd prefer to just order from amazon and have it on my doorstep with no taxes. so its really like $9 off per game, so in reality it's closer to 12 games in 2 years. and factor in the convenience of not having to go to a store to get a game with amazon shipping it to your doorstep.

it's been a long time since i purchased 12 brand new games at full price in a 2 year period.

Amazon now charges state sales tax for me, since the first of this year. I get free shipping on Best Buy orders or store pickup is available as well. Also, the government is trying to get all online retailers to start charging sales tax in every state. Enjoy it while you can.

Yeah, it's hard to be enticed by that. I mean, on the high-end, I could see myself getting 3 new games in 2014 (Titanfall, The Division, and MAYBE an MLB game, if one comes out of nowhere). Other than that, I don't recall seeing much of anything I couldn't wait to get used.

I mean, GameStop gives you 10% off used games for $15/year. That means you have to buy just 3 games to break even on that, if you went with semi-recent titles that were $50 used (like the ones you'd get for $60 at Best Buy). On top of that, GameStop's used games come with the chance of getting them during a buy 2, get 1 free sale.

Unless you're someone with a LOT of extra time and money to throw at a bunch of games at their respective launches, I don't see why ANYONE would spend $120 on this. $30? I could see that.

I honestly don't know that I've EVER done that myself. In 2013, I didn't get any games new, I don't think. In 2012, I only got Black Ops II and Halo 4. This year, the ABSOLUTE most would be 4, from what I was looking at a moment ago (Titanfall, Destiny, The Division, and Watch Dogs). That's stretching it on the last one, plus The Division COULD get pushed to 2015, and I could probably hold off on Destiny until Christmas, while playing Titanfall. So I think that Titanfall is the only one I really want to get at launch, but that becomes a matter where I might not have the time/money to get it, meaning I could play a LOT of games in 2014, while buying 0 new.

You're one of the lucky few left that don't get charged tax on Amazon.

Heh...Florida might start getting taxed from Amazon but it's not there yet. Who knows if/when it will.

Between tax and the lack of preorder bonuses at Amazon, it makes little difference where I buy from. It's actually better for me to shop at Newegg or specialty websites and now local stores. I still avoid Gamestop and their pre-opened box games so it's pretty much Best Buy, Walmart or Fraud Bullseye (Target).

I don't see myself ever buying that many new games on or near release date. I think this past year I bought 2, Rocksmith 2014 and AC4:Black Flag. Last year I think I bought only one game. Everything else I get are after they hit the bargain bins (case in point, I havn't picked up "The Last of Us" yet because it hasn't dropped to the ~$20-30 range yet). I have such a backlog of games that I want to complete that I really don't bother with new releases.

Oh, and I think everyone should avoid Gamestop unless they are specifically looking for a used game. There is absolutely no reason that a "new" game should EVER arrive without the shrinkwrap.

but think about the employees and their desire to play new games for free!

Then dont buy the friggen gutted copy. You CAN REFUSE!!!!!!!

Get over it. Anyone who buys the gutted copy then complains later is an idiot. No doubt about it.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Check out privileges were there so that the employees could know what they are selling. What good is it if you walk into a game store and nobody knows a thing about the games they are selling? They cannot make recommendations that way. It would be like walking into the electronics department at walmart where some grandma has no clue about anything there. It was determined that having a specialty store required employees who knew about the products.

Again you can and always were able to refuse to buy a copy of a game. There is no requirement for you to buy anything. Harping on this is as retarded as it gets. It's not like Walmart, Toys R US, Target, Best Buy, and online stores don't exist.

How would you like to walk into a Guitar Center and the guy selling you a guitar doesn't play and has no idea the differences between an American Strat and a Japanese Strat or when you ask about a certain pickup arrangement he gives you a blank look and a shrug?

Who cares about shrinkwrap? If the sticker on the case hasn't been broken, what's it really matter?

I buy from GameStop, in part, because of their rewards thing. I've accumulated quite a lot of points with it over the years (partially because multiple consoles were purchased on my account by relatives), so I'm fine with buying new games there. I mean, what's the lack of extra plastic going to harm?

Have you ever been to a Guitar Center? Most of the ones I went to were filled with those people.

And the same can be said about many Wal-Mart employees as well, so I'm not sure the comparisons being chosen were the best. Seeing as most everyone on this site is fairly knowledgeable about technology, I think we've made it to stores where the employees knew far less than us.

I have and I have never been met with someone who doesn't know what they're talking about in the drum department, guitar department, or recording and live audio department. Everyone there was very knowledgeable when I had questions. Granted a lot of it is opinions based on personal experience but that is really the best way to receive information IMO.

You are lucky then. The Guitar Centers I've been in are generally filled with guys who can hardly play and don't know a thing.

I talked to a a guy there who played, as in demoed various setups for me, and we discussed ideal pickup arrangements and string gauges for the drop C tuning I like to play in.

Maybe I just had bad experiences. =( Granted, I've spend 99% of the time in one in Austin, TX and another in Montgomery, AL.
