FYI - BB dropped the price for a two year membership to $30.

Is that permanent I wonder? I see it's still $30 on their website. I'm thinking I want to buy it, but I'd prefer to wait until the next game I buy to maximize subscription timing.

No idea if it's permanent, but I bought it at $30 during black friday (or maybe Christmas sale) 2014.

Since then I think I've seen the $30 offer a few more times, so if it's not permanent, then it's a frequent deal (an awesome one too).

20% any new game, extra trade in value/credit, extra pre-order bonuses ($10 GCs)

Yeah, it's hard to be enticed by that. I mean, on the high-end, I could see myself getting 3 new games in 2014 (Titanfall, The Division, and MAYBE an MLB game, if one comes out of nowhere). Other than that, I don't recall seeing much of anything I couldn't wait to get used.

I mean, GameStop gives you 10% off used games for $15/year. That means you have to buy just 3 games to break even on that, if you went with semi-recent titles that were $50 used (like the ones you'd get for $60 at Best Buy). On top of that, GameStop's used games come with the chance of getting them during a buy 2, get 1 free sale.

Unless you're someone with a LOT of extra time and money to throw at a bunch of games at their respective launches, I don't see why ANYONE would spend $120 on this. $30? I could see that.

This is for people who have a lot of money to spend, but are trying to save money. Doesn't make sense at all.

Well, it's also changed and gone on-sale since. It's not $30, not $120, for 2 years. I ended up getting it for $60 last May, after I got an Xbox One as a graduation gift. That, and getting a REALLY cheap Wii U, opened the floodgates for getting games. With that $60, this is what has been saved, in about 10 months:

PC: $3 The Elder Scrolls Anthology ($3 total)

Wii U: $12 each on Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros., $5 on Super Mario 3D World (used), $4 on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (used) ($33 total)

Xbox One: $12 each on Watch Dogs, Madden 15, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, The Evil Within, Sunset Overdrive, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, and Dying Light ($96 total)

If you include out tax rate, that's a bit over $143 I've saved in under a year. That doesn't include the extra 10% in trade credit (which probably got me $20+ tin trade credit), or does it include games that were purchased as gifts for others (probably another $10-15) or games purchased by others on the account (probably another $50+ saved).

Like you said, it was for people who had a lot of money and wanted to still save money. That changed with the price drops they had for the membership. At $30, anyone with a brain should have GCU and buy all new games at Best Buy. $12 off every launch title is a steal, when you consider it's basically 3 games before the membership has paid for itself.

Does the 20% GCU discount apply to price matched games as well? Basically, if I find a game for less at say Fry's or Target, can I get it for that price - 20% as a GCU member?

No. The discount only applies to the full price and Best Buy Sales prices.
