It has nothing to do with it.

Women are emotional, but not rational. It doesn't matter what is being said to women, it doesn't matter what is being done to or for women, what matter is how it feels to them. And based on the feeling their mind will create a story of what was done to or for them, or what was said to them. And based on that story they will react. Because women do not listen to understand, women listen to react.

I think every man here understands to which behaviour I am pointing now.

Are you insinuating that men aren't the same? Go to the graphics sub-forum and look at the people who say they are happy to pay $600 to turn down settings at 1080p and turn on their TruMotion 240Hz tech.

I saw the thread in the other forum linked below and a lot of the people here give off serious old man yells at cloud energies.

These problems happen easiest when you have non-enthusiasts making videos for enthusiasts. You can tell who the true enthusiast are in the industry.

This is like the CNET in the past with the written word. A journalist that knows how to put words together does not an enthisiast make.

this isn't the first time she's aired this dirty laundry. she did so after leaving lmd or whatever they call themselves. why sit on it longer and readdress it when she could have gone to an employment attorney back then? nearly 2 years later she speaks up again? initially she said she didn't want to discuss it when she parted ways in late 2021 and then would make snide comments online as the months passed by asserting the jack assery that went on at lmd.
For some people, when they've been done dirty by people who will reap the prejudices of social position, they have to pick the right moment to drop the hammer. Shoot your shot too soon and you'll get deflected, have to be patient and wait till you have some advantage back on your side.

Jay2Cents used to weigh 500lbs before he had gastric bypass surgery. None of the youtube channels has anybody that graduated from a 4 year university. This includes Linus and Steve as well as Jay2Cents. I think just about all the youtube computer tech channels are composed of people who didn't even go to technical schools or graduate high school.
Yeah I’ve been thinking about that a lot recently. It’s a sad state, really that this is where we have to get our “tech info” from now. You’d think SOME ex-major company engineer would want to be involved in the tech review game, or at least someone with an engineering background.

As much as I like Steve from GN and he seems to have learned a lot, I sometimes cringe at the knowledge gap when doing his facility tours etc.

Lately I watch channels like der8auer, Dave’s Garage, Adrian’s Digital Basement for my tech entertainment, and a few others that each of them have recommended. I can’t imagine watching Jayz2cents or LTT, I think I’d lose a million brain cells per minute

Lmd is more stronger today than it was about 2 years ago. there is always misogyny and sexism with youtubers. no such thing as too early. 2 years ago during the peak of covid workers had more power over employers than employers did over employees.

A bit too misogynistic for most of us.

der8auer has a background in mechatronics engineering, I know Dave has a background in cs and worked for MS, but idk who qualifications Adrian Black has. He doesn't really come up in my recommended unless I'm doing research on old gaming cabinets.

Yeah I suppose that’s the odd one of the bunch. I think he used to work in a computer repair shop, that’s not quite on the same level as the other two. But I’ve been bit by the retro bug lately, working on some old Macintoshes and found his channel. Been pretty happy with his coverage of old tech

Btw is balatant misogynism allowed on this forum because Glo has been saying the weirdest things for the last few hours now...can we just stay on topic?
I don't think misogyny is allowed and I agree that we should stay on topic. I'll let the mods handle actions that may or may not have violated forum rules.

Those that keep the enthusiast passion and don't succumb to it being just a job to make money are the ones I want to follow. Don't care about degrees or employment background. Many of those don't have the enthusiast passion.

Maybe AT needs to have a new Forum called Safe Space where people who feel offended can vent without basically calling people out as Misogynists?
Older Gen-X here, and while I think I understand what someone meant, I think it could have been written a bit better. But then I'm mostly mono-lingual so I give the benefit of the doubt. FWIW, what someone posted is pretty clearly inline with what one of the largest Psychology pubications has posted about: https://www.psychologytoday.com/int...ties/201504/are-women-more-emotional-than-men

On topic, considering some of the zany antics and style of Linus, and the work environment publicized, I'm inclined to give Madison the benefit of the doubt unless/until there is evidence she is being dishonest.
And I think the Billet Labs fiasco is yet another evidence of the employees acting in the same spirit as their leader.

Someone leaked the all hands HR meeting after Madison left the company. From watching it I’d say the HR system at LMG was sorely lacking (back then at least) and probably very very easy for malignant employees to abuse, even if that wasn’t the intent. A case of a small amateur company growing without ironing out its professional structure.

Probably also has something to do with Linus’ apparent belief in his own exceptionalism. He’s had a background of it, claiming his employees would never need a union because he was just such a good CEO, and saying his backpack not having an explicit warranty was fine because his company was so trustworthy. Now it looks like he was comfortable having no real HR because nothing could ever go that wrong in his company.

I already told you guys months ago that Linus had a substance abuse problem. You could see it on his face in his videos. More money, more problems. He did seem to clean himself up a bit recently.

I have been a LTT forum member since 2014.
After watching the latest video and seeing how the staff and his wife react and linus's response, seems you are correct on the substance abuse.

Growing pains for a company. Startup and small companies are fun to work with. Only few employees, mostly friends, no need to boss around, no rules, everyone knows their responsibilities. Nobody thinks they need a proper HR, Rules and regulations etc. But when a company grow quickly without proper plan, these type of things are easy to occur. Linus always portrays his work place as fun, it might have been that way in the begging. But they can't be the same fun company with 100+ employees. It is too much to expect the new employees to put the same amount of dedication as original employees.

Passion alone is a pretty low bar to clear. In a world with 8 billion people I’d hope there would be a few people on the overlap of the Venn diagram with both passion and industry knowledge. Is that too much to ask for?

I’m not trying to gatekeep but at this point the pendulum has swung so far towards personalities and “passion” over substance that I’d happily trade a dozen “passionate” tech youtubers in for one industry vet, even if they sound like peak Ben Stein monotone lecture

I think part of the issue is; if you know more than Steve or Linus you’re either super specialized or already make much much more doing a less time consuming job.

My dude, Linus routinely installs stuff upside down and backwards

And that’s if he doesn’t drop it on the floor

There’s plenty of people on this forum that know more than either of them

But you’re right that the incentive is the clear issue. Not many professionals probably want to risk burning bridges of their day job relationships

At least GN has been having a lot of interviews with industry professionals and behind the scenes tours.

It is kind of useless to speculate about whether specific people are 'bad' or not. But there's really no excuse for running a company badly, and being unprofessional. And I think most enthusiasts don't hold LTT in high regard with regards to quality of content. The clickbait, jokes, unseriousness comes on top of that, but that's more of a PR problem. Of course your attitudes will further bite you in the ass if you get in trouble for something objectionable with regards to quality. And rightly so, 'growing fast' is not a valid excuse for a toxic work environment over several years. Also, Linus very consciously chose to hire tons of non-technical people for a huge quantity focused operation with all that entailed.

I have no idea if small, dedicated channels that output better and more interesting stuff than LTT are moral or upstanding, but there's at least less chance that they are being weird or abusive toward their few or non-existing subordinates and it feels better to support them.
