I'll be 45 in November. Love gaming. Total War games are probably the most fun I have gaming now. Fast twitch FPS run and gun stuff doesn't quite do it, although the graphics are great. Also love driving games (have wheel and pedal set). Too bad about the generational stigma about games being kids stuff. My wife understands I'm using my brain a helluva lot more than just sitting watching American Idol or some other voyeuristic crap. Gaming will stay with me for life in all likelihood,. The genres might change but the mental process of problem-solving is just way too fulfilling to stop. Hell its no different than my 80 year old Dad doing crossword puzzles, frankly.

If anyone likes very realistic sports simulations, an older golf game that is still 'state-of-the-art' is called 'Links 2003'. I used to play in a competitive league, and I may get back into it.

It's more realistic than the newer golf games out now. Plus, you can get it for a great price. There is a huge 'enthusiast' crowd still playing the game, lots of competition leagues out there, and many great new courses you can DL and play.

I play in a 500+ member clan that has about 20% of our membership thats over 45. There's a number of 60+ and even a couple of 70+ member. Hell, they have a obituary section on the clan roster.

Um, I'm 42. I guess according to this thread I'm a "whippersnapper".

The world is going to be a weird place in 50 years. We're going to have 100 year old gamers. Grandparents with tattoos and tramp stamps. Oh, and the internet will still consist of 95% porn. At least some things will never change.

48 here. Don't have the time to game as much as I used to but try to get in a few hours a week.

I'm actually a little worried about when I'm like 70 and can't game anymore.

Why cant you game when you are 70???? What else is there to do???

46, and still playing strong. usually 3-4 hours a night. It's replaced watching TV. While a lot of games have been dummed down, there are still gems out there. Did you like diablo? Well get Borderlands. All the fun of killing hordes of enemies with a great sense of humor, and all the tons of weapon choices to sort through and look for upgrades to.

It has cost me a few relationships when I point out that I'm not giving up gaming to sit beside an SO while they are watching primetime soap operas. I have better things to do then waste time sitting in their presence.

I'm 67, can't see myself stop gaming after 25 years doing it. Too bad I'll probably die before the next breakthrough in gaming.

This thread is inspiring. I'm only 31, but I'm full blown eccentric when it comes to PC gaming. I hope that never changes with age.

Been avidly gaming for 30 years, why stop now? Just handbuilt my first gaming rig with a friend (see below) this year. So many good games out- never enough time to play them with work, bike racing, marriage ect. Part of a major gaming community (iO), have a Wii and PS3, love TF2 and Civ5, and the Fallout series.

You are only as old as you allow yourself to be.

Seriously? Really? I didn't know there was anyone older than 45 who plays games.Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, it's just that anyone I ever met over that age thinks that games are only for kids.... These people never even tried a good video game, and they say things like that. The worst thing is that they don't even want to try.

This is a great thread. I am in the 40+ category too, and still quite good at games. I tend to play 1 or 2 exclusively for a while before getting bored and switching and I only play multiplayer online stuff. Been focused on BFBC2 for almost a year now and after I started playing it, I never played L4D2 again. And before that when L4D2 came out, I never again played L4D1...you get the point.

I also have 2 young kids and play at night when they go to bed. Sleep suffers a bit but you find even with life and kids you'll make the time for things you love. Better than the shit that's on TV, though my wife will occasionally make me sit with her and watch house hunters ha.

45 here. Don't game on the PC much anymore. Do play on the 360, Lego games, they rock.
When I do PC game, it's usually older FPS games with my 6yo son. He beat me in a 1 on 1 in Serious Sam awhile back. I was proud of him, but not happy my skills have eroded so much and I'll likely never have time/interest to reclaim them.

Haaa haaa welcome to the club man, my 11 year old kid just totally annihilates everyone on COD Black Ops and leaves me in awe while I am such a shitty player it's not even funny.

Wow, man. I've met so many people that were 40+. Quite a few that are 60+, too. All this being in MMO gaming. Including my father now, who never really got into it while I was a kid, but now is starting to really enjoy it as a past time. It's cheap(er) entertainment than most hobbies, really.

I'm only 30 years old, but won't see myself quitting gaming like it's some horrible disease or only for younger generations. As far as I'm concerned, if the younger generations can keep up with me, then it's a surprise. :ninja:

My coworker and her husband are in their late 50s/early 60s. They currently are WoW addicts and heavy in raiding. She was talking to me yesterday about how they were getting bored with WoW, especially since her husband had only logged in for a little while rather than their usual several hours

I keep thinking how I wish I could get my girlfriend to play even *one* game I like playing.

I just turned 25 and was wondering if I was getting too old for gaming...glad to see the hobby doesn't necessarily have to disappear as one gets older.

I'm 41 and I slowed down early to late twenties but picked it up again around 29. I think I was too busy with work & chasing women.

I will play all my life. I will play with my son and even with my grandchildren.
Games are part of our daily life and can't see anything changing that for a while.

almost 53 and still burning the late night candle on weekends. Several toons on WoW, but my heart belongs to the old space games: Privateer, EOC, Freelancer, MechWarriors, Descent (great for making people sick as they watch you play), X2. Tried some of the console games for just can't get the right "connection" to the handset, but it is interesting to watch the kids play. It helps that I build my own systems, so i can optimize it for gaming. Lets see, first computer i gamed on was the Kaypro 10. Still remember doing programing in college, using punch cards.

ps...........it's funny to get a call from my dad (82 yrs old) when his system "twitches" and he can't play solitaire. He usually deletes the short cut by accident so it's an easy fix. I think his system is still running W95. We bought 'em a laptop for xmas (i pushed for desktop but was out-voted) but he still goes back to the old desktop cuz it's more familiar
