I just got a Samsung NC10 netbook. What games are you guys putting on your netbooks?

I did not get it for a gaming machine, but it would be cool to have that option for when I get the urge to play something.

SMAC, Civ3, Infinity Engine games, AoE1/2, possibly AoM, StarCraft, games with similar requirements.

Nearly all netbooks have no 3D capabilities to speak of, the 945 IGP was a joke when it was first released years ago. Needless to say, it hasn't aged well.

IF I did: 2D stuff or very old 3D stuff like Unreal Tournament.

I dont have one yet, was seriously considering it for college before I started. No one in my classes has a netbook. Saw one or two in the hallways. I found that my handwriting isnt so bad I need one, yet.

Most folks at my community college have minor gadgets. A bunch of low-end cell phones, some nice ones. Very few netbooks, a lot more are full laptops, but there arent many of those. Not many personal media players. Usually the old B&W iPods if anything.
Overall, very low tech.

My opinion on games comes from all the reviews I've read. Only netbooks that specifically have nice 3D accelerators can play anything at all. There is an ASUS (I think) with a discete 3D card that can be turned on and off. While on it can get barely playable framerates in American McGees Alice with all details at MIN and a resoultion of 800x480 (the only one that works). It also kills the battery

Forget games. Thats NOT what netbooks are for. They're for convenient typing on little desks and some web surfing if you have time between classes. And they are not for all-day use either. If you think you need to play games then you dont need a netbook.

Dont even think of them as computers. Think of them as PDA's with full keyboards. Thats about all they are good for, even if you get one with a regular 2.5 inch hard drive instead of Flash.

I'd recommend older 2D stuff and Web-based Java & Flash games. It wont kill your battery and will be easy to run.

Netbooks are for what people use them for.

I watch movies on mine sometimes, pop Doom or Hexen 2 if I feel like it. Those work great.

I also use it for Skype and for browsing the web if I can't fall asleep for example and am too lazy to get out of bed

If I had one:
Fallout 1-2-Tactics & Jagged Alliance 2 (Good Old Games / GOG.com), X-Com collection (Steam), GameTap games,

These require finding a no-CD crack or installing virtual CD software:
Infinity engine (Baldur's 1-2, Planescape, Icewind)

If half life 1 can run at 15-50fps, i think my EeePC is good enough. These came with intel 915 graphic chipsets, not the 945.

Otoh, if you can pick up A 10-KEY to go along with your netbook, you can play some pretty awesome old win games. Castle of the winds and civilization. Good times

The graphics card sucks right...but there were so many awesome games from the late 90s and early 2000s. Wouldn't it be powerful enough for those?

Baldur's Gate series, Clive Barkers Undying, Civ III, Sacred, Diablo II, Warcraft III, Dungeon Keeper 2 (personal favorite), Fallout Collection, Arcanum.

Those should keep you busy for a VERY long time.

It won't run on most netbooks. Won't run on my Lenovo S10. Unreal Tournament GOTY runs great on it.

+1 for Baldur's Gate. Syberia I and II should also run fine I think.

You're pretty fail then, cause QL runs great on my NC10.

Not sure what you are into, but all of the strategy games listed above would be good. I have OpenTTD on my S10, and am going to put roller coaster tycoon on here as well.

I'd think those old Lucasarts games would play just fine. Might have to start playing Day of the Tentacle again!

If you like the SCUMM engine games, look up the SCUMM virtual machine!

It lets you get the deluxe CD editions of these games (mac only in some cases), rip the full voice content, and play with improved video scaling.

It's AWESOME!! I played all the good ones (monkey island series, sam 'n' max, day of the tentacle, and indiana jones)

Your netbook is the exception because most won't.
