It won't run on most netbooks. Won't run on my Lenovo S10. Unreal Tournament GOTY runs great on it.

You're pretty fail then, cause QL runs great on my NC10.

Your netbook is the exception because most won't.

Is the NC10 the model with the Nvidia 9300 IGP as well as the 945 IGP? If its still using the 945 IGP and runs QL fine then nearly any netbook will run it as they all have identical specs.

It only has the 945 IGP (GMA950) - and it runs QLive just great. I'd provide video, but that's against the NDA.

There's a video of someone running Half Life 2 on an MSI Wind. Not sure if it's real, but it's definitely amazing.

I have eee904ha and above all work very well.
btw. mine can be o/ced to 2ghz and runs fine, but some games do not respond well with hyper thread throttling and runs in semi turbo mode

Jets N' Guns

It's 2D so it should run fine on a netbook.

NES/SNES/Genesis emulators should work fine, maybe even PS1/N64 emulators

Like others have said Unreal Tournament runs decent even on crappy integrated graphics.

yeah it works on lower settings and looks great! I think the low resolution of most netbooks is what allows them to run demanding 3d apps.

I was referring to personal experience and some reviews in MaximumPC. The netbooks they tested wouldn't run Quake Live.

I did get it to run. I previously was running Windows 7, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Isnt there a special mod or hack to get HL2 running in Direct X 7?
Looks like ass but runs smoothly.

My suggestions: (besides what was already recommended)

Galactic Civilizations I.... Maybe II?
Emulators... Sega Genesis, SNES, GBA, MAME, NEO-GEO, maybe some PS1 and N64.
Warhammer: Dark Omen
Shogun: Total War(not sure about this one)
GTA 1 and 2
Chess or GO? lol
Heroes of might and magic I-III.. maybe even IV
Disciples: Sacred Lands
Armageddon Empires (very good turn based game)
Total Annihilation
Diablo 1 + Hellfire.. Maybe Diablo II?

Diablo II works just fine on my Dell Mini 9, running off an SDHC card.

Warcraft III...well, DotA specifically, was a bit slow. Didn't try to play the campaigns.

HL2 actually supports a directx7 path out of the box. Text

Its easy to forget that the game is over 4 years old now, and even when it was released it was pretty friendly to older hardware. Valve did do a lot of things right with that engine, great scalability and tools. It was never really top of the line though...but to many developers forget that having a large potential audience does wonders to increase sales.

Right click Half-Life 2 in the steam games list and click properties,
Set launch options... and input:
-dxlevel 70

other valid values are 60, 70, 80, 81, 90, 95 or 98

It sounds like alot of you can't play games good on your netbooks. On my Dell Mini9 I can play Worms 3d (Maxed out) C&C General. I can also even play Quake 4 (although on lower settings). The only problem I have on my netbook is sometimes it takes a few seconds switching to different windows (Ex. Switching from IE to Windows explorer) I think it has something to do with the SSD HD.

i have

GTA 1+add ons 2 3 VC SA
Rollercoaster tycoon 1 2 3
Call of duty 1
MOH AA
neverball/neverputt
The Sims 2
Need for speed underground
halo (bit slow, but i can cope with it)
AOE 1 +expansion 2+expansion

these all work fine

now quakelive or whatever
does run fine. From what i have noticed with these little babies, the slightest thing which can stop a game running how it should be, is what you also have running in the background. People complain a game wont run, when they also have itunes, firefox, msn/skype/whatever you use. To play a game, your best just closing everything down, run off the main if you can. The biggest peice of advice i can offer is

DO NOT RUN A NETBOOK, ON ENERGY SAVER, WHILE PLAYING A GAME
kinda simple really

I run Jedi Academy on my Acer Aspire One, no problems. I can also run Battlefield 1942, although it does dip quite a bit.

The integrated graphics on most netbooks can be roughly thought of as a really fast directx7 card. IE, if a geforce 2 could run it, a netbook can run it.

Anyhow, I run Starcraft, Master of Orion 2, and the Fallout games on it. May have to pick up some more old DOS or late 90s PC rpgs if I end up using it a lot.

Oh, and it'll emulate most consoles just fine, at least up to n64.
