Games freezing momentarily

I have a BFG 6800 OC with latest nVidia drivers installed. For some reason most games I play (Half Life 2, Morrowind) occasionally pause for a few seconds and then resume. It is incredibly annoying. What is wrong and what would I do you fix it?

hwo much ram do u have? did u just get this glitch when u changed drivers?

I have a gig of RAM. Not sure if it happened with previous drivers, because I got the latest before I played anything.

I completely wiped the driver and reinstalled. Morrowind works fine with fewer pauses (only when it loads a new town or something) but Far Cry and Half Life 2 run horribly. I was running both games on high settings flawlessly before. Now both slow down (especially in the outdoor bits of Far Cry). I really have no idea about this.

How often does this happen? I've been having the problem recently as well and I think I found the problem.

All i can offer is when i had my BFG 6800GT Oc in my Nforce3 setup, i got "pauses" unless i disabled fast writes in the bios.
See if that helps.

Hard to pin down the problem if you don;t give more symptoms.
Check to see if your swap files are on drives with alot of disk space to move about or set a contiguous file for your swap. This game me problems before.
Disk problems also causes pauses for me.

I fixed it.

Dunno what exactly was the problem, but I cleared the GPU and chipset drivers again and reinstalled the latest. Everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks everyone!
