Games where the AI is just too good

I was playing Arma last night on one of the sniper mission. I was about 300 yards out lying prone when I shot the enemy officer. Before I could even start crawling back I was gunned down by a guard on a machine gun 300 yards away. This was during the day so muzzle flash should be minimal but somehow he was able to pinpoint exactly where I was after I fired.

I tried the mission again and this time I was able to find a clear shot 1000 yards out but the mission required me to get within 300 yards or the officer will not come out. I did get the kill at 350 yards but as I retreated I was still getting rounds coming in my direction.

Medal Of Honor. I don't know about the newer games, but in Allied Assault and other early installments, enemies never missed. They'd hide behind boxes, occasionally putting JUST THEIR ARM above the box for half a second to shoot you and then go back to hiding. That blind firing always seemed to work for them.

And don't even get me started on the sniper mission. I'm amazed I got through it, required about a million quicksaves and deaths though.

I've never played a game with good AI. I've played against hard computer players, but that doesn't mean their AI was good.

Company of Heroes has some pretty good AI and is one of the most challenging that I've encountered yet.

I think the point of the thread isn't to complain about computer-controlled players being "too smart," it's about ones that "cheat" or are given supernatural powers. So getting outflanked and killed by someone is a case of enemy AI being good, whereas Medal Of Honor-style blind sharpshooting is "too good" (aka broken, cheating, unfair, etc).

This happens in a lot of RTSs too.

Quake 3, final boss, hardest difficulty.

You can run onto a jump platform and get airborne at serious speed while the AI does the same thing, and he will headshot you EVERY time. Not even on the hardest difficulty all I could do was try to not die until he came over to my side of the map and put a railgun round between my eyes.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein end boss. That lovely human like triple bitchslaps me before I can do shit. Never did beat it.

i was not refering to ladder mode

in Custom Map modes, they are uber good

Ummm..... Fear up until you they start standing in the middle of the room shooting and not hitting you. Stalker up until they walk into the open for no reason, and you use that to take a group of 10 bandits down one at a time with a lowly pistol.

I always found the Supreme Commander AI and Sins of a Solar Empire AI to be hard. The UT series usually has decent AI.

The final boss in KOTOR 2 was ridiculously hard. And it wasn't even that creative. Just 3 flying lightsabers controlled by telepathy. No tricks, just beat them. GTA also has some pretty annoying missions where you have to chase/kill an enemy, but they're ridiculously good at driving.

Depended on the type of Jedi you were, my first play through I laughed how stupidly easy they were, second time around with a different build they schooled me for a while until I got it down(I had my old save games and checked it out, yep, was still real easy with my first character).

Chess is the only game with a tough AI. In most any other game the AI has some advantage or is cheating.
