I found that when you find you cannot beat an enemy under any circumstances, you're probably in the wrong place. If you went to the skeleton graveyard first when landing at Firelink, you know what I mean (instant and brutal death). There are two ways into Blighttown. One is much harder to get to than the other (hint hint).

A second note: Blighttown almost made me cry. Until you get your learn it really well it is extremely frustrating. When I got to the bottom the first time, I truly though the game was impossible. Many hours of effort later and now I can run around there like a god.

Yep, that's what makes this game great! What seemed impossible at first (Sen's Fortress, Boss Fights, etc.) because "easier" once you know the tricks.

Those skeletons weren't that hard at level 1, just took a while to kill. Dodging them was easy, they just have enough health I have had to hit them 1000 times. Now, going a bit farther and having respawning skeletons told me I should go a different route.

I'd suggest trying to make it down to the area with the titanite demon and grabbing the gravelord sword by joining the gravelord covenant. There are several shortcuts to get down there once you're in the lower section of the catacombs and you can pretty much avoid most of the skeletons by rolling around them and a lot of time they just fall off the cliffs.

It does require 24 STR so if you're not doing a melee build it may not be worth it. I grabbed it early on and did a bit of a grind to get up to 24 STR, but it was worth it as i'm now mowing down enemies in Sens Fortress.

Quick Question: If I use the Cracked Red Eye Orb, does my location matter? For example, if I use it in Blighttown, will it only look for other players, in human form and near my Soul Level in Blighttown or does it look at any area in the game?

Yay, I finally found out where I needed to go:

I had a basement key and had no idea what to do with it. I obviously wasn't supposed to be where I was, so I went back to the main Firelink Shrine bonfire and took the very first path through Undead Burg. I eventually got to the bridge with the dragon, and the door right across the way was for the basement key! I killed some minotaur and the Gaping Dragon and now I'm on the correct side of Blighttown :awe:

It just felt good to find the correct path

Yeah, I had some problems figuring out what that key unlocked as well. It's not entirely clear, especially since you get it pretty far away from the actual basement door. Good thing we have the internet for games like this, haha.

yea, at least you guys didn't consume the fire keeper's soul like what I did. I regret doing that everyday, even when I am not playing the game.

Hmm, I found where to go "up" instead... much "easier" area. lol

Are you using a divine weapon? Also, what Soul Level? They aren't terribly hard.

Haha, having a rough experience so far in this game. Did make it up to a boss fight and then got one shot Back to the start!

9 more deaths, including 2 from boss.. I'm gonna play Saints Row 2 and come back tomorrow.

Yeah I consumed TWO because I thought I was supposed to. Screwed myself royally there.

The game is very difficult and there's nothing wrong with a little help IMO.

I haven't really gotten pissed off at Dark Souls, even the "dreaded" Blight Town. I guess I just put in so much time in Demon's Souls that I don't die very often.

The only part that pissed me off was bed of chaos.

I died the most to that boss. Yes, I died most to the puzzle boss

Lol yes. The only thing I can think is that there is a bonfire right before the Taurus demon behind a locked door that I can't open.

I died a good 50 times and haven't beaten a boss yet... there are maybe a few things that I could have done differently with character creation or playing but something the game just wasn't fun for me, plain and simple.

I know that I could maybe save up and buy firebombs but I don't even want to bother because 1. I know ill get waxed going over to the vendor and 2. I know ill still get waxed by the boss and lose my firebombs and have nothing to show for it on my character and will have gained no more player skill.

I'm a pretty avid gamer of all types and this just sucks.

Wait are you dying to the taurus demon (hope i didnt read wrong)? Just climb up the tower and jump down and poke him in the eye. Do that 4 times and he dies, you were supposed to figure that out after the asylum demon when u first fall in on him plus when u go up to kill the 2 archers you see a drop off point.

Same here, but I just John Rambo'd in and kept trying to make the jump without any timing lol.

Super loving this game. It's not perfect, but I love its style and intensity. Been a long time since I've spent 3 hours in a game learning a boss encounter and running back for more each time.

Ok, so I rerolled a knight instead of a cleric and its night and day.. Died just once before getting to the taurus demon and I one shotted him.

So far I'm ok with the still high level of difficulty but I knew something just wasn't clicking.

Two things:
First, I'm pretty sure everything he has is blockable. If you're a blocker, like a knight, you should be able to block, jab, recover and win. Just remember you don't recover endurance while blocking, so keep your finger off the block button when he's not attacking. Second, if you're a dodging class, you can run between his legs when he winds up for most attacks. Keep circling behind him, wait for an attack that he whiffs and get some hits in.
