cdw still has it for 1299 however they have bad resellerraitings also. however they have been in biz for years so dont think they can do anything to jack you. bad thing is that youll prolly get a banias and not a dothan, as ive only seen newegg get the dothans

For anyone who has this laptop: how long does it take you to fully charge your battery? Til now I've been running the laptop on A/C power, so I haven't tried the battery yet. Thanks.

BTW, this laptop is awesome!

I'd be careful about buying a Mobility Radeon laptop for gaming...

The manufacturers are all a few revisions behind on drivers, so basically when a new game comes out, you're left with an old set of drivers that usually need to be updated.

ATI does not support their Mobility Radeon with drivers on their website; they tell you to go get them from your manufacturer.

You can always use Omega Drivers, but then it just gets to be a pain in the @$$ to constantly have to "jimmy" your drivers.

For this reason, I would recommend an nVidia card for laptops.

Just my $.02

A 2Ghz Dothan performs on-par with a 3200+ AXP64. Anandtech did a comparison of the Dothan vs. current desktop chips - check their CPU section.

do you mean AXP or A64

I use Omegas on this laptop and they work wonderfully. I was able to play Doom 3 normally, the day it came out.

I have this laptop, and it takes 2 hours to fully charge from when its completely ran down.

Just to put in my $.02 on this laptop, its a great machine, i bought it from Newegg about a month and a half ago, and it works great, despite the fact that when i tried to convert to NTFS, it screwed the laptop up where i couldnt get internet and things were really slow so i had to reformat. The Radeon Mobility 9700 runs games great on this. If you are worried about not having the latest drivers for the laptop, there is a special mod tool for putting regular drivers on the laptop which is very easy to use. Beware, the laptop tends to get a little on the hot side when gaming though. I got the laptop back when Newegg had the ones in stock with the Dothan, so i have a Dothan. Now i think they only have Banias in them at Newegg, or so i read.

The TM4501WLMI looks like a replacement for the 2012WLMi.

Specs are similar, except it has smaller hard drive (40GB instead of 60GB, plus it has a (better) DVD-Dual drive instead of a DVDRW. Plus the battery life is rated at 5 hours. $1389 at NewEgg:

I just got a Dell 9100 for 1250$. No DVD burner, but I did get winXP pro(for the better battery life which you're supposed to be able to get), the Hitachi 7200 rpm/8mb hard drive,a 128mb 9700, and a 3ghz processor to boot. I guess I can take the extra weight...
These do look nicer, though. I guess I would'nt mind the higher performance of the P4; the Dothan 1.5 is somewhere around a 2-2.2 ghz P4 in performance, so you can expect the P4 to be at least 1/3 faster. Of course, it does'nt have bluetooth and the battery life is abysmal, but there's nothing I can do about that.
Now, to find some 512mb pc3200 SO-DIMMS!
