Anyone recommend a good gaming chair? I have both PC and Xbox on my desk, so can't be one of those chairs that sit low on the floor as i need to sit up straight while on pc, but it needs to be able endure leaning way back while on console. 5'9" 235lb or even 240 by now -

Herman Miller Aeron, only chair worth owning.

I snagged two a month or two back refurbed for about 250 each, so don't let the sticker shock get you.

My new computer desk sits a little higher than average...probably need a good 2" over a standard PC chair seat height if I had to guess. Any recommendations for taller-than-average and comfortable?

This is the correct answer if you want to buy a chair.

If you want go for the DIY method, get a really nice car seat (Mercedes S class or Volvo). Then make your own chair base. You can probably hook up some sort of inverter to power the mechanicals and seat warmers.

I still use a $35 leather office chair I bought at Target. No back strain for my 6-10hr sessions, it has arm rests, it can lean pretty far back, it has wheels, and adjustable height. If you're paying for anything more, you're paying for vanity. I've tested some of the high-end gaming chairs - the ones with speakers, subs, controllers, fridges, etc. built into them - but in the end, they aren't anymore comfortable than a standard nice office chair. In most cases, they are more uncomfortable because some of them are designed purely for show and not for extended sitting, whereas office chairs are specifically designed for ergonomics.

Edit: Just checked out the Herman Miller Aeron chairs and those are the extremely fancy office chairs. Those are ridiculously comfortable, but I highly suggest only grabbing one of those if you have plenty of disposable income.

Bought mine 10-12 years ago now. Best money I ever spent. I think I went through a office/gaming chain every 1-2 years before I bought this chair.

You like the Aeron over Embody? I know embody is more pricey but it seems better.

Having an Embody I will admit that my buddy's Humanscale is a better chair. He has the freedom with headrest. A headrest is a must.

In fact in hindsight, as much as I like the Embody, I'd pick a cheaper no name chair with a nice headrest over the Embody. Head support is a must.

I'm headed to an office show room later today to check out some Steelcase chairs (Leap and Gesture specifically). I'll report back here. Sadly, I don't think they carry any of the Miller chairs.

Never had a headrest in anything but a recliner (and I'd probably fall asleep with one in an office chair). Usually my posture wouldn't even support having my head on one, so it wasn't a concern.

Dunno about the Embody specifically, I've been in IT for about 10 years, and all 10 of them has been in an Aeron chair.. It's like the de facto standard ass-cushion for american offices. I realized when shopping for chairs that I regularly sit in one for like 8-12 hours straight every day with nary a notice about back, butt, neck, shoulder, or leg pain or sweating, so why not get the same thing?

Aeron is nice and the embody wasn't adopted as much due to high price and polarizing looks. The Aeron is the standard I agree, when I was working at a nice office it was the standard.

I will say having an Embody, the Humanscale is much better. The headrest is very adjustable and can be moved out of the way.

The Embody itself is great on the back. It is their most adjustable chair. If I hadn't tried the Humanscale I would have thought it is the best. The disadvantage of the Humanscale is that it costs even more than the Embody. But IMHO worth the extra because if you are already getting into the 4 figures then you might as well do it right. If I got a good deal on an Aeron though, I would opt for that instead.

Trying them is a good idea. I would also look for local dealers of both Humanscale and Herman Miller and then decide.

Went and sat in the Leap, Gesture, and another chair by a different company (around the $400 price point). The Leap was easily the most comfortable.

I have a Leap and would not recommend it. It would be an absurdly good chair for office work. However in practice I find while casual gaming or f'ing around on the net that I tend to lean back or slouch way to much and the Leap does not accommodate this at all so I just end up putting pressure on my tail bone and straining the lower back. One of the reasons I chose the Leap over a Humanscale was that the Leap seat stays flat and keeps your feet on the floor. Great for office posture, but again, works against you a bit in max lazy mode.

Sometimes I like to sit in a chair cross-legged. Is there any computer chair out there that allows this, while still having armrests?

+1. I don't know if I'd say it's the only option, but it's the go to option for a chair that's comfortable and can actually stand up to significant (8+ hours a day) usage. I bought mine new and paid basically full price, and I have no regrets.

The showroom is letting me sit in the Leap till early next week before I pull the trigger. I'm sitting it in right now. It's amazing how a different chair adjusts your posture. Only been in it for a few hours but when I go sit in my old kushy "executive chair" I just sort of crumple into it.

I have two chairs: a recliner and a mesh desk chair. I use my recliner when I play with a controller and my desk chair when using a kb and mouse. It's a bit of a pain switching them, but it's really nice to game in the recliner using a controller.
