Gaming Chairs

I have been trying for years to find the perfect gaming chair. I currently have a very uncomfortable and low quality saucer chair. I do *NOT* want one with speakers built in. I have my own sound systems I have invested money in.

I am 6' 1" 175 lbs, which is a problem, because most chairs seem to only be comfortable for kids.

Which looks like exactly what I want, but they will not ship it to the US. I also cannot imagine how much shipping on that would cost even if they would ship it. It is already ~120 dollars (which I would be willing to spend)...but I am not spending over $200 for a bean bag.

Has anyone else had any luck finding something comfortable for gaming?

just get an aeron chair and be done with it. under $500 not a single chair is worth owning.

I am not talking about for sitting at a desk. I have a TV hooked up to my PC across the room. It would be like using your desk chair to watch TV.

Since it is for my office though, I can't fit a couch, so I looking for another solution.

I have one of these. The build quality is really good for the money, however, the chairs are not perfect. You can tell that they are converted racing seats because they are a little too narrow for long gaming sessions. As a gamer i really don't need side panels which make sure that my butt and my torso don't fall out of the seat - it isn't like my gaming chair is going around sharp corners. The biggest plus is that for the price, the build quality is top notch with really good leather and good padding.

Edit: As an aside, the other chair I was considering was the Knoll Chadwick, which is more expensive but still way cheaper than an Aeron.

What's the deal with those Aeron chairs? I get quality costs more but they still seem stupid expensive for what looks like a mesh chair. Give me a high quality executive chair any day of the week.

The Aeron and comparable offerings from other manufacturers are high quality executive chairs. Perhaps one could upgrade the trimmings and add a headrest? I'm assuming from your comment that you have lower priced models in mind that are labeled as executive, because my idea of an executive chair is pretty much a blinged-out >$1K Herman Miller or Steelcase.

If I misunderstand and you're saying that one might as well shell out the extra $500+ to jump from a basic Aeron to the flagship model, then sure thing, if you have the money I suppose.

I bought a used Aeron for around $600 back in 2000. Have used it for many a marathon gaming night and have never regretted buying that chair. A good chair should last you nearly a lifetime, and your back will thank you for it.

Yeah, if you use the chair a lot its worth it. I don't quite remember when I bought my Embody chair, but I think its been at least 4 years, and its still like new. And at work we have Aerons. Before my Embody I'd get the Office Depot $50 special every year or two. If the cushion didn't wear out something on it would break and I'd have to replace it. And during marathon gaming sessions cheaper chairs aren't as comfortable.

Steelcase Leap is a good alternative to the Aeron. I even consider it to be better.

As an update to the OP, I did purchase this:

Can't really "store" it, but it is really comfortable for gaming. I have a long DVI-to-hdmi cable wrapping around my relatively small office to a 46" TV (yes...I put sound over there too because the computer system behind my head wasn't doing it for me...and TV speakers...*shudders*).

I am behind on gaming...so been using this chair to play some GTA IV with an XBOX 360 controller. Been really great for gaming so far. Very padded and it is just comfortable to lay down gaming with my head supported.

i grabbed a herman miller aeron after looking at this thread.. it inspired me to desire a chair that will last "10 years and still feel better than the new 150$ one"..

The one i grabbed http://visalia.craigslist.org/fuo/5114125092.html (good quality) from craiglist in city next over.. 200. i gave him 210 to hold it for me. He threw in some foot rest and i am now sitting in it. idk how much better it is but it seems my ass feels 5x better than old chair so yea defiantly good purchase. (except now i will prob need another )

People don't always consider how important good seating is which is why I've got an ergonomic task chair myself.
