Basically looking for any different suggestions. This is what I got so far and it's 996 w/o a monitor...

LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS30
Antec Twelve Hundred
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA
HIS Hightech H487F1GP Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775

Any suggestions, is this the absolute best? Is something not needed that I should downgrade to. I basically went with reviews on newegg on what to select, I'm not too good with computers, I just know the basics.

I would perhaps get a second DVD-ROM if you do a lot of copying, and sometimes it is easier all around to have to disk drives. I would partion the HDD and put solely windows on one partion and your programs, games and media on the other partion.

As for the motherboard you could save about 15 dollars and go with the GA-EP45-UD3R. The Video card you selected has a $25 mail in rebate at newegg.

And a suggestion on the PSU if you want to cut down on clutter, is the Antec NeoPower 650, it is modular and is only 10 dollars more than the Corsair at newegg. Other than that everything you picked out is a great choice. I do not know much about the case you picked out but I use to have a Antec Lanboy many many years ago and I liked it. I use a Tt Spedo now because they have amazing airflow and they are easy to work inside of.

since your thread title says for now/future, I would suggest a quad core cpu such as the q6600 or q9400. I would also agree with UMfanatic with changing the mobo for the UD3R if you dont plan on using crossfire.

Get some 1000 or 1066 RAM for a few bucks more so you don't have to worry about it limiting an overclock in the future when you want it to last a bit longer

@UMfanatic, I don't copy much so I don't think I wanna spend money on a second drive. As for the motherboard, I heard the UD3R has a very confusing BIOS, as a newb that drove me away from it, is this true? And the Corsair PSU, I've been told it's one of the best, how does it rank compared to the Antec and is are the wires cluttering a big problem?

@TC91, the Quad's seem to have low Ghz, I forgot to mention this but I'm not gonna overclock because I've never done it so I don't really wanna screw anything up, rather just get parts that will last.

@yh125d, I don't plan to overclock since I'm not good with computers.

Building a pc today that you want to use for a long time without upgrading and putting a dual core in it is ridiculous.

I'm being told I can run this computer with a 500 or 550W power supply, if I can, can anyone recommend a good 500W PSU? It'd be nice to save some more money.

Bamacre damn that's a really nice build but I dunno if I wanna buy everything from different websites, also I really wanna get the antec 1200 since it's on sale for 170 on newegg.

Also it says provantage.com has no 30 day warranty.

It's the best way to squeeze out your dollars, and all those sites are reputable. The Antec 1200 may be nicer, but with your budget, it's the best thing to cut. Cases don't make things go faster. A fast quad core will help keep that system up to date for a longer period of time, trust me. The XFX warranty is also very nice to have.

Read the sticky in the CPU section. It will tell you everything you need to know.
