Unless you have a very good reason for going with an FX CPU then go SB/IB, they are far superior at gaming.

im on a budget and amd fits well and i already have a brand new AM3+ so i have no choice but AMD. Also i will be 3D rendering

Go IB/SB instead and get a good 50%+ more gaming performance.

Else get a Phenom II x6.

i wouldn't say there crap because when overclocked they can do really well but intel is not a option at this point onley Athlon II. Phenom II, or FX

What GPU will you use, resolution and what games you going to play ??

either a HD 6950 or HD 7850 @1920x1080 and BF3, MW3, Black Ops, WOW, Dirt3, Portal 2, Skyrim etc

If you can spend the extra for the FX8150 go for it. If you will stay with the default cooler just OC up to 4.2GHz (or the higher you can do with default voltage). If you will use a higher performance cooler then OC to 4.5-4.6GHz Turbo OFF and you will not miss a single fps of performance.

If you are budget constrain get the FX6100 and OC it the same as above.

If you don't plan to OC at all, the FX-4100 might be a decent option until PD arrives. Otherwise, the 8120 is the best overall option for gaming + 3D rendering.

Get the FX8120 and just OC to 4.2GHz or higher (turbo off) and you will be more than fine

ps: unless you will like to wait for PD, then just get the 4100 and upgrade later.

Make sure to disable Core Parking in Windows 7 if you go BD.

Additionally, I've found Windows CPU Parking to be excessively aggressive by default. In one test bed, an AMD Bulldozer platform (8150), the scheduling problems were *very* apparent. Turning off CPU Parking causes an immediate boost in responsiveness, particularly for the virtual machines and multimedia applications.

For that rendering and 3d studio max etc,,, the video card openGL does the work, but of course CPU matters to. As long as its a quad and OCed, There shouldn't be a bottleneck... gl

yea that's true but i couldn't find a decent nvidia card that will last at least 3 years

If intel is not an option then 8 cores and a >$30 cooler is the only option.
