Just a fair bit of warning, going 1440p@144hz basically locks you into needing to buy higher tier video cards for the life of the monitor compared to 1080p@144hz to achieve the same frame rates. So not only will it cost more this upgrade it again in the future. Just food for thought. I'd be looking at something around a 1080ti/2070s/2080/5700xt performance level to play newer games at 1440p above 80fps without completely sacrificing settings. You'll still need to lower some settings in newest games but not much.
Does anybody here game with these settings? What do I need to know before looking into this? Is it possible to build a new system WITH monitor for $1500-$1600 to game with these settings?
Or should I try and go 1080p @144hz?
For 1440p@144Hz you need 2x faster gpu for same results in comparison with 1080p@144hz assuming that cpu will not bottleneck @1440p.
So @CrowDog, what games are you going to run at 1440p144hz?
I mainly play WoW and plan to play Classic WoW. But I do play other stuff from time to time. Some Path of Exile and other ARPGs. But I would like the option of playing newer stuff when it comes out too.... so yea, gaming and stuff
Good input in this thread...thanks guys. I'm going to post over in the builders forum here in a couple weeks and start researching my new build.
Well, I'm about to jump into the 1440p 21: 9 bandwagon as well after gaming for my entire life on a 1080p 16:9. Just purchased the Acer Z35P which is an ultrawide 1440p at 100Hz.
I went through a lot of articles about pixel densities and performance against graphics charts and finally decided to go for it. I have a 1080ti so it should be moderately smooth sailings. I doubt i'll be able to extract a 100hz from games like AC: Odyssey but I guess it was time for an experience upgrade anyway.
So I think that if you have the budget for a 1440p 144 hz, then you should definitely go for it.
Playing @100hz, in games that you can get more than 100fps, do you set vsync off? Or just stick to 100fps?
If using gsync it's best to cap fps 2-3 below refresh rate. You also want gsync AND vsync on in nvidia CP.
If there's no in-game option to cap usually I just let it roll and have no problems. Though there are a few 3rd party programs you can use.
So I got a noob question here. What if I'm only getting like 100fps on a 144hz monitor? How does this work?

I game at 1440P 120hz.
I know. My monitor can 165hz.its fine for most people...
however that extra 24 frames per sec, is very taxing as you need 144frames per sec + to make use of a 144hz monitor.
