So I've been wading through all the various data for a couple weeks now, comparing prices to specs, and I still feel lost.

I want an LCD to replace my old 19" CRT, and the main thing I care about is gaming. At first glance the Samsung 915N looks pretty awesome because I'm a no-frills sorta guy, but it doesn't have DVI and I want to keep that option open for when I upgrade. From what I've heard the Hyundai L90D+ uses the same panel, and incorporates DVI as well. I think I'm leaning towards this monitor.

However, everyone and their mother seems to be recommending the 2001FP. Frankly I don't think I need the 20" screen, and it looks like I'll end up paying more than $100 more even with the current crop of coupons. Is it really worth it?

Bonus questions:
17" LCDs - how come no one ever talks about them?
Ergotron monitor arms - worth $100?

Well I'll answer the bonus question for you and I'll throw in a question of my own.

17" LCDs - how come no one ever talks about them?
Because size matters. Bigger is better

If you're primarily a gamer and your concerned about cost then why not get a badass 21-22-inch CRT that will greatly outperform any LCD for a fraction of the cost.? What 19" CRT are you using now?

You will likely have your monitor longer than any other computer component so spend the extra money. (Happy Dell 2001FP owner here).

I did the same thing you did and came out with a different model the VP 191b. I have been a CRT owner all my gaming life and can tell you the VP 191b rocks. If you find the past threads with the review links you can come to your own conclusion.

I have 4 adults in the house who all game with CRT's and they all agree that this LCD monitor is just hands down got the better picture. I was one of those CRT's are better for gaming until now and I'm sold on this LCD.

I was in the same boat as you 2 weeks ago.

My trusty 19" CRT started to make high pitched hums that would go only away if I change the refresh rate or resolution. Because of this I knew it was time for a new monitor. I am in a Counter Strike: Source clan that competes in CAL so I needed something that performed great in games. After doing a lot of research I decided to suck it up and buy the L90D. I got it for $340 at NewEgg.com which is a lot cheaper than what I thought I would have to spend for a gaming LCD. If I could not play games on it I was just going to get a 21" CRT and have a dual screen setup since I do a lot of graphics work.

After getting the monitor and playing CS:S, BF2, UT 2004 and some good old Quake 3 I love it. I use the DVI connection and I can't see any ghosting in games. The color reproduction is not what I need for my graphics work but for gaming it is an awesome monitor.

So take it from a very demanding gamer, if you play games on the L90D you will be very happy with it's gaming performance.

Yeah, those old skool washed out TN panels are quite fast, but I think the 2001 uses an IPS panel or something that that has alot better colors, alot better viewing angles, and maintains a good response time on top of it.

The image quality depends a lot on the light conditions. If you play in the daytime, the top LCDs are quite good, especially the ones with that glass coating, although good CRTs look much better in the dark.

The 19" LCDs have larger dot pitches than the 17" and 20"; I find that they are better for text because of this but look a little less sharp with games.

I have had the L90D+ for about 2 months now, and am VERY happy with it. Zero dead pixels, and great performance. Playing COD, BF2, CS Source, and HL2 with zero problems. Very smooth and zero ghosting.

I have the Hyundai L90D+, it's been good to me, like the dual inputs, speaker quality isn't too bad either, slightly tinny but definetely usable and above the quality of what it typically found on laptops.

Refresh time is great, I don't think I've ever seen the screen blur. That said, considering I play console games on my LCD, and Ps3 and Xbox360 are hdtv widescreen, I kind of wish I had the 2005FPW, no wish for the 2001FP though.

I just went from a 712N Samsung 17" LCD which had 12ms response time to a Dell 1905FP. The review of the 712N LCD by Toms Hardware was very positive and won their favor.
The response time is excellent, that is one of the main reasons.

The Dell 1905FP on the other hand is horrible for gaming. Way too much ghosting/blurring when compared to the 712N even with DVI connections.

I have a 2005fpw, and two Samsung 915n's. The 915n's are the gaming monitors. If I need another monitor anytime soon it will be another 915n.

The 2001FP was my first LCD but ended up returning it (Using my CRT for now),I'm sure you can find a better model now a days , the 2001FP has grey'ish washed out black levels in dark situations (games / movies) IPS panels are known for weaker black levels but the 2001's low 400:1 contrast ratio hurt this even further, Newegg just got some newer Samsung models in wich are based on PVA panels (better black levels) to bad there isnt any reviews around for either just yet,but the 193P+ looks like it should be a good gaming monitor:
