Gaming mice!

Recently, during a power outage, my Microsoft optical mouse from about 6 years back started encountering a very annoying problem. Randomly during use my mouse will start losing power and function. The red light on the bottom of the mouse will go dark and for a few seconds I won't be able to move my cursor, aim at someone in a game, or move any of my units. It happens rather sporadically and needless to say when I'm in the middle of a firefight it really hampers the game.

So, are there any good mice you guys would recommend? I've heard the G5 is great for all around computer use and is great for gaming.

What about the G9? I'm not planning on going pro or anything but I do like having a great gaming experience.

Are there any other brands / models you would suggest I take a look at?

Oh and I'm not really looking forward to spending more than 80~ish dollars on a quality mouse. And preferrably I would like the mouse to be able to last me a long time.

Thanks for the read and any input is awesome

I would check out the MX518 mouse. I love the design and style of the 500 series mice. I remember reading some mice performance reviews and stress tests a while back (around a year ago or less) and that one was definitely one of the best. I really like enjoy the 500 series mice as they are all great for gaming.

My main thing about them was the comfort level. Sitting at a computer using a mouse for an extended period of time makes that a high priority for me when choosing a mouse. Others will say it is bulky or just awkward. I think these mice are good for people with big hands.

Do some research and you will figure it out. It has a lot to do with your taste and preference.

Look into going to a local store that has mice out on display, for feel mostly. Then you can get an idea of what you want. I'll just suggest the DeathAdder or one of the right-hander Logitech's because most likely you are right handed.

I'm madly in love with my new G9. I really really didn't think I'd like it, but my G7 was starting to bother me by only having 1 side button. AND.. because I'm anal and I need my peris to match color/manufactuer where possible.

It's more of a top-palm/claw style grip... which is how I naturally play. The little touches are great. Fabric braided cord [Although a little short - mileage may vary], Variable LED Colors [perposterous selection], Modular grip and weight system [Trivial to some, a godsent to others], and a hundred other things I haven't even had time to notice.

It's not without a learning curve... but It's the best mouse I've gamed with.

I spent the last few months researching mice; I even started the G9 vs. Deathadder poll in this forum. After reading every message board available, it appears that the vast majority of gamers prefer either the Deathadder or the G9 over everything else. The Deathadder is preferred by about 2/3rds of gamers, over the G9. This was true of the poll in this forum until just this week when the G9 actually closed the gap slightly, but also is true accross all forums I have read. *edit: (obviously these two mice do not account for 100% of all choices, but after recognizing that these two were by far the most prefered of all gaming mice, I then looked at all the comparisons between just these two mice and came up with the ratio I mentioned previously.)

The G9 is liked primarily by people who grip with their fingertips, whereas the Deathadder is liked by both that group and also the palmers, as it is a much larger mouse, but still very light.

One new mouse getting some positive nods is the Steelseries Ikari Laser Mouse. Everyone who has reviewed it likes it, except for the one major complaint being that the shape of the side of the mouse makes it difficult to lift off the pad. I never lift my mouse, so this really wouldn't bother me.

Personally, I just bought a Deathadder last week. I really like this mouse. I would like to at least try a G9 if I could find a place to test one. Maybe I will buy one from Best Buy and return it (provided I don't fall in love with it, but since I tend to palm my mouse, I doubt I would prefer it over the Deathadder).

Actually, the favourite mouse shape that I love is the Habu. But the sensor is a little finicky and there are a few firmware problems because its Microsoft written drivers. But I loved it until mine broke

I had the HABU and i hated it. The sensitivity was all out of wack and installing drivers for it? What a joke. I returned it to Target and got the mx518 there and saved myself $30. Best mouse i've ever had.

I still miss my Logitech MouseMan. Dual optical = FTW!

Anything made after the MX1000 suck arse from logitech, the build quality is just awful, the

only thing decent is logitechs support but after them sending replacment mice you begin

to realise its not faulty mice its just that mice are shit.

How is it for gaming? I have rather small/mediumish hands and I usually palm grip my mice. Is it uncomfortable and is it worth the money?

Awesome for gaming.. especially if you have the patience to calibrate the settings/options, which are expansive.

I guess I hold it in a hybrid palm/claw. The top of my palm rests on the mouse, with my fingers bent and kind of perpendicular to the buttons. As opposed to parallel, which is what I imagine palmers do.

Not uncomfortable. Includes 2 different grip styles and weights.. so.. you can play with the configuration until you're happy enough.

I'm pleased with my investment. It's the best mouse I've owned. You're never going to KNOW until you hold/use it.

i bought my Deathadder before id noticed this mouse, is is it any good ? i like the buttons near the scroll wheel you can have setup to the DPI or Hz a feature missing on the deathadder well for me anyway as i use the 2 side buttons and middle mouse button in game.

Is there any software to check the DPI of a mouse ? i have the mouse rate checker so i can see my mouse is at 1000Hz but i cant seem to find anything for the DPI.

I really like it. It's a claw grip type mouse though so it might not be for everyone. The buttons near the scroll wheel are good for switching DPI, but I don't think you can change Hz with it. But I don't ever change that anyways. Also, they might not mention it but there is a button on the bottom where you can use to change profiles so that frees up more buttons as well.

As far as software for DPI I don't think there is. I was looking for one a while back too and I couldn't find one.

MX Revolution, no other mouse has as many accessible buttons, which I find to be most useful in gaming.

No problems with quality here either, or on my VX.

Speaking of the MX1000, does anyone know where to get one? I have the mouse and my kids broke it. I'd love to buy another one, but the only place I can find one is ebay and I'm not so trusting of everything I see on ebay. I found it one other place, but they wanted $149 for just a mouse!!!
