I just built a new machine and have been thinking of upgrading my monitor. My current monitor is a 5 year old 22" Acer 1680:1050. Overall it's a fine monitor but relatively low end with some serious light bleed around the edges on dark scenes. I'd say my price range is probably $300ish but a bit flexible. Will be used mainly for gaming and web browsing, but also some office work and general since I sometimes work from home.
Looking around it seems like almost everything is 16:9 1080p. This resolution is great for TV and movies, but I don't care for it so much for general use, especially for web and office applications. Going to a 24" 1080p looks like all it will do is give me an extra couple inches of width but no real gain in height. I think I'm down to either a 27" 1080p or a 24" 1920x1200 monitor. I actually like the size and aspect ratio of 1920x1200, but they seem to be hard to come by. The only one I see a lot of is the Dell 2412. Most of the reviews for this one are decent and price isn't bad. Should I just go for it or do you guys have any other suggestions? My primary concern is the relatively slow response time for gaming (8ms).
PS I'm running an 7870 video card
