Yep the vast majority of gaming mice are a waste. This is the best mouse ever made:

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

After going through a G5, an MX518, a Deathadder, a G9, an MS Sidewinder, I ended up sticking with that mouse. Most comfortable for me, and the mouse wheel is easy to click and hold, which I need for RTS panning. My performance in game actually improved because apparently I am better at low sensitivity, and the improved comfort helps of course.

But it does feel kinda cheap and fragile. There was a steel series mouse that looks similar but with a sensor that allows you to switch between various high DPI settings, and maybe its higher quality, but it was pricey iirc.

Best mouse is completely subjective, though. Some people will find a certain design more comfortable than others, some people need higher DPI because they like to play at higher sensitivities, and some people like to switch between DPI settings in-game.

agree with everyone here

I will add that gaming mice are stupid and as long as you have a two button + scroll mouse you are fine. There's no reason to get a l337 h4x0r mouse, they're a waste of money.

Speaking of which, if you want to get something good for your money, get a better graphics card, the GeForce 8400 is pretty bad.

If you turn up your mouse speed past the middle notch, you can benefit from higher DPI.

If you leave it on the middle notch and are OK with the speed, maybe your dexterity isn't high enough to take advantage of higher sensitivity.

I play all my games with my G9 turned up to the max 2400DPI. That means to move from the cursor across my whole 1920x1200 screen takes less than an inch of movement. I never have to pick up the mouse except in games.

With a regular old 800dpi mouse, I'd have to move it almost 3", which means moving my wrist. Big difference between just mousing with your fingertips and having to wave your wrist.

Not to sound like a douche but your PC still sounds kind of weak.
True, OP could definitely use a new graphics card. Even a $100 card would be a huge improvement.
As far as controllers and whatnot, get a gaming mouse. I suggest Razer, I tried out like 5+ gaming and nongaming mice before I decided to fork over the cash on what I really wanted the whole time but didnt want to spend the money on which was a Razer Lachesis. It was leagues ahead of the Microsoft and Logitech mice I tried. The Lachesis has 9 completely programmable buttons, only 7 are really usable though because its an ambidextrious mouse. But having 7 buttons at your finger tips is a huge advantage.
Disagree. I don't use anything but two buttons and a wheel because it would interfere with my aiming and grip. If I had to buy a new mouse today, I'd buy an Abyssus.
The other 2 huge points about the Lachesis was how it felt in my hand and when it would stop reading when lifted off the surface it was on.
Fit is very important, and subjective. Lachesis is maybe 8/10 fit for me whereas the Logitech MX310 and Razer Copperhead were 9/10. Short lift-off distance is also important, and it improved a lot on the newest generations of opticals. Copperhead had much worse lift-off, for example.

PS I think all the DPI crap is nonsense. The Lachesis has a high DPI but I dont even use it. I can kick peoples ass in FPS games with a regular old mouse.
I'm a high sensitivity player, and find anything lower than 1600DPI pretty terrible for games. Going lower than that feels bad also in desktop usage (I don't use acceleration). All gaming mice now have 1600DPI or up, but the cheapest bulk mice have DPI as low as 800. This, the lift-off distance, button feel and ergonomics are the reasons I recommend people to get a "gaming" mouse. Not necessarily the most expensive one, but one that fits the hand. A 1800DPI Razer Salmosa is probably just fine, and better than the 2000DPI Copperhead was, because the lift-off was improved with the new sensor.

I'm just a lazy ass.
Sitting 12ft away from my 73" display while both feet resting on the top of the coffee table with a wireless 360 controller is heaven.
Who cares about accuracy?
Just reload when I'm dead, lol.

Just watch a movie and be done with it. You just need to be accurate enough to hit the play button.

to me what makes the mouse is the feet on it...smooth glide with no snagging

I just find it amazing how, for lack of a less harsh word, ignorant console gamers are to the advantage of a mouse+keyboard over a controller in FPSs
