looks like im going to settle for the 510...mainly as it has a cord....i dont like the idea of a slower response time due to cordless...
would rather get 518 or diamondback, but cant find a site im willing to trust to buy it from that has either in stock :-(
(i wont buy from a website unless someone i know personally has given me a good word of mouth review of the place)

that's a shame since most reputable online retailers tend to be passed on through forums such as these than word of mouth.

shessh. ya, wireless has MASSIVE lag man, i can barely move my cursor 'round.
once your willing to pay more then 20-30 bux on a mouse, they are all the same. when you start getting into dpi and refresh rates, your getting into therotical and technical aspects. in real life applicications and uses, you DO NOT notice such things. mx510 and up, they all has nearly identical performances. only differences are user end. ergonomics, wieight, cord, battery life, and price. those are the only true differences between the majority of mice.
anybody who comes out trying to say refresh rate, usb bandwith usage verses ps/2 bandwith, and lag issues will mostly like not know what the hell they're talking about. rather believe they sound smart by spouting all that non-sense gibberish.
Real life usage, go by what you like. go by feel, weight, convience and price. everything else is gonna be a very distant second place.

You sound just like all those "30 and/or 60 fps is all the human eye can see" people. Just because you can't tell a difference between them doesn't mean no one else can. For instance the lag you commented about, I'm in the same boat, I never detected a difference between the MX500 and 700 in terms of a feeling of lag. However, some people swear it's there so I'll just have to take their word for it as to it affecting them. On the other hand I can easily tell the differences in dpi of various mice. I can sense it between the MX series to the Viper, from that to a Diamondback, and even from the 1600dpi DB to the 2000dpi Boomslang (although with the DB now the pros of the 5 year old Boomslang design have finally been outweighed by it's cons), so I'll have to assume for now if an even higher dpi mouse comes out in the future I'll be able to take advantage of that too.

Im a CS:S gamer in a clan, so minute differences can actually be possible to tell....
a few things i do have minor differences, for instance hifi/home cinema, varying the speaker cable you use can yield different results in sound, its not imaginary either.

I would say if you cannot notice subtle differences then you are either a cumbersome oaf, or simply apathetic

after hearing the pros and cons of the various mice mentioned, the one that was actually attainable that seems like it will be the most useful to me was the 510.....im quite happy using a mouse with cord......not just to reduce any lag effect either......its handy as i sit in an armchair when i use my puter, 4 remote controls on one arm, my mouse and pad on the other arm, keyboard in my lap...so when the mouse gets knocked on the floor, i can just grab hold of the cord from the PC and reel the little blighter back up without moving from my comfy position

varying how? the lenght? no. the gauge? sure, if you use 30 gauge wire you'll adversly effect the performance.
