Question Gaming PC for around $2000

Hello I would like to build a gaming PC (desktop, windows currently have a 4k display so that isn't included in the price) for around $2000 - I play Fortnight currently. I would also like to keep it for a long time so something upgradeable with the board having future processors for the socket would be great.

So, it looks like the case you picked has a built in PSU and you have a different one listed in your parts list. Not a big deal but, as mentioned it doesn't have a great airflow to it with that solid front panel with vents around the sides.

I took your list and made some suggested changes and added some fans that you didn't have on there as well as your perspective monitor to have a comprehensive price of everything together.

The only thing I can't add on there is these graphite pads instead of thermal paste
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BL3SCWH - I use these on my setup including the laptop I'm using because they're effective and easier to deal with than cleaning off the paste every time you want to inspect something or need to move the cooler out of the way

The laptop option was forward thinking of down the road when you start becoming more mobile with a DL and such.

No I dont have the case and I havent bought all the parts yet.

That depends on several factors. What case will you be using? Do you want an air cooler or AIO? Are you trying to stick with a specific look to your PC?

Not a bad parts list. A couple of notes.

Look for 6000MHz memory, that's the sweet spot for AM5 right now.

Don't pay that much for Windows. Check out scdkey.com for a Windows license.

Do you already have that case? Doesn't look very good for airflow.

Looks like a nice build, only thing I would mention is there is a 6800XT from Gigabyte on Newegg, for about $60 less. Also, with your budget, I think an 8 core CPU would be more deserving in a new gaming build. Maybe consider the 7700X?

The Be Quiet case you picked is a good case. Some others you could consider would be the Corsair 4000D airflow, Lian Li Lancool series, Phanteks Eclipse, Fractal Design, etc. A lot of these cases have similar styles and airflow so it will probably come down to aesthetic and the number of included fans.

On your latest build the only thing I would change is the cooler. The 120mm Corsair you chose is very expensive for the small size. If you stick with the Be Quiet case you have 2 options, you could put a 360mm at the front or a 240 at the top (I would avoid the 280 at the top as they can sometimes interfere with RAM). If you choose the Be Quiet Pure Loop 2 FX model it has fans that match the rest of the ones included in the case.

Shmee brings up a good point on the 6800XT. The Ryzen 7700x won't really provide you any more gaming performance (all Ryzen 7000 series are pretty close gaming wise depending on the title), but it could help you with other tasks down the road.

Most FPS players use 1080 or 1440 because they want high refresh rates. If you start playing AAA games and want all the eye candy then go 4K. Otherwise stick with the faster, lower resolution monitors.

No, a laptop isn't worth it if the PC is going to sit on the desk all the time. You'll get better performance at the same price with the desktop.

The current case i was thinking of was be quiet! Pure Base 500 FX ATX Mid Tower Case and was thinking of

Corsair H80i v2 70.69 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

The 240mm radiator (middle selection) will fit in the top of the case and be the easiest to install because you do not have to remove the front fans. It is plenty big enough to cool the 7600x CPU. The 360mm radiator (top selection) will have to go in the front of the case so it could require you to remove the fans and reinstall them with the radiator. The 280mm (last selection) will fit in the top of the case, but it could touch the RAM so I would not choose this option over the other 2.

Yes, for 4k you would want the highest GPU you can afford (RTX3080, RX6900XT or higher). That could also require a bigger PSU depending on which GPU you get.

The Current One I have is a RX6800XT should I switch to RX6900XT?

Looks fine except for the budget being over by $1k when you add the monitor, fans, paste/pad, and anything else that comes to mind.

6900 XT with 850W PSU? May not be a good idea if the OP wants to overclock in the future. I would say 1000W just to be on the safe side.
