Im interested in buying a new system mainly for gaming, Im not interested in over clocking as i am absolutely clueless about how to go about it. Which of the 2 systems would be better at normal settings, most of my friends believe that AMD is better for gaming, is this true?

Yes, back in 2006 against Pentium 4s, but no, not since the Core 2 took over.

My gaming PC is an A64 X2 but it was built in April 2006. If you go to the main anandtech.com site and click the CPU tab you'll see the AMD processors haven't been competitive in a long time.
