Hello

i just found someone selling a gaming PC for £640, was looking for peoples opinions on it, if it would be good enough to play games such TOTAL ROME 2, FIFA 14, BATTLEFIELD ETC, basically high graphic games or would it need to be upgraded any time soon so it can play some of the newer games that are coming out.

That's a pretty good rig for the price; you'll do fine for a while.

Supposing you built it from scratch... if you got an i5 instead of i7 and 8GB RAM instead of 16GB, you would be able to afford a better graphics card. Which means you'd get better gaming performance. The GTX 660 isn't really a graphics card I'd want to see in a £640 gaming build that lacks an SSD.

In addition to pure gaming performance, I see a couple of problems with that build.
(1) The power supply is an X-Viper. While I can't prove it's not good, neither can I find reviews or tests that suggest it is. Therefore I would stay away from it and buy a unit known to be high quality.
(2) Same applies to the case, but it's less important.
(3) 1 year warranty is quite short. If you built from scratch, you would get 5 year warranty on the PSU, 2-3 year warranty on the graphics card and lifetime warranty on the memory, to name a few.
(4) The graphics card is probably an OEM part with a relatively noisy and hot reference cooler.

I would recommend building your own rig. It doesn't matter if you haven't done it before because it isn't difficult. You learn something about components in the process, which can be both rewarding in its own right, but also useful for troubleshooting possible hardware issues or upgrading and modifying the PC yourself.

Doesnt look too bad for the price to me. The disadvantages are:

1. Fairly weak graphics card
2. Nice cpu but cant overclock if needed
3. As someone said, dont know if the power supply is reliable
4. It is used. Do you know and/or trust the seller? You said 1 year warranty. Are you sure the seller will actually make good on the warranty if you have a problem?

On the positive side, that is a good cpu and should handle most anything stock. If you decided to build your own, would you need a copy of windows? If you did have to buy windows, not sure you can beat the price.

I disagree. It has an extremely sketchy PSU, low-end motherboard, and weak GPU in order to pay for the splashy CPU.
