I have recently decided that I want to build a new gaming pc from the ground up, I want to use all brand new parts (non from my current pc). My budget is in the area of 2000-2500$ and I would appreciate some input. I have asked many people I know personally and have recieved all kinds of different advice. These people are not 'connesuers' of pc parts, so I am here asking you guys! I want to be able to play games (MMORPGS/FPS) with the absolute best settings without losing framerates and at the best resolotions.

EDIT:
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
-Pretty much only for gaming and a few other minor tasks that can be done using any old computer.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
-My budget is 2000-2500$

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
-I plan to buy online if I can and locally from (Toronto, Canada) if I can't.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
-My current PC uses Intel I7 Extreme (no problems with it what so ever), I love nVidia.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
-I intend to use no current parts.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
-I would most likely run at default speeds.

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
-1920-1080 or higher.

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
-Within the next two weeks. Earlier the better.

10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.

see stickies at top of the forum and fill out the form for best results and help.
or look at the dozens of other threads like this one exactly.

that is a very solid budget for a high performance gaming pc... although that may vary if you are really canadian....

I would go with a different PSU. While that Antec Earthwatts does offer independently regulated rails, there is some 70mv voltage spikes and jumping on the 12v rail - not my cup of tea for expensive gear. The Seasonic X series offers Fantastic regulation, stable power peaking at 30mv ripple, 90% plus efficiency, and quiet to silent power conversion.

EDIT: If you ask me for a PSU recommendation, I would suggest the Seasonic X 660w

That is the older version, the one tested on jonnyguru, that one had 3 +12v rails 2 at 22A and one at 25A this one has 2 at 38A each. This new version is the revised and updated version of the first and any problems with the first AFAIK were sorted out with this one. Oh and this is only $72 after promo, compared to the Seasonic at $100+

Model number of what?

Also the X660 is 160 bucks, $160.... Really? SeaSonic is a fantastic company BUT a 660w PSU that is only marginally better then the one i posted for $80 without the promo. 2x the cost. that is dumb.

Total Score

That is not a BAD PSU or taking a "chance". It was a solid recommendation even then.

That is not the review of the revised PSU, and seeing that the track record of the PSU you are recommending, I think it would be fair to the OP to offer a review of the REVISED model.

Wait... so you are using that review of the original as a down point of the PSU but the fact that it was rated 9/10 is not important because it is the revised version i recommended? That makes no sense. Pick one. Either it's bad or it's good, Jonnyguru rated it 9/10 the one i linked is the revised version and should only be better. Antec is a very respectable company i would buy this PSU for myself if i needed one and i have no problems recommending it. The fact that you recommend a $160 alternative is just stupid.

So let me get this straight you quote a review that in the end gives the PSU a 90% and call it a questionable and a bad PSU. "taking a chance" is what you say, yet it is Jonnyguru recommended... The revision of this PSU is even more questionable simply because it has no reviews yet? If the first version got 90% and this being Antec, i see NO reason what so ever to not recommend this PSU.

If you can offer a review of the new revised model that shows the 70mv spike on the 12v rail has been taken care of with the new spec, that's all you need to do. I would too approve the recommendation.

BTRY B, are you aware of how tough it is to get a 9/10 from JonnyGURU? This ain't Tom's Hardware we're talking about. Anything they rate above an 8 is perfectly good for pretty much any use.

OP, is this build an upgrade to your current one, or a completely new build for another person? I ask because it really doesn't make sense to throw out an i7 Extreme edition at this point.

I would not buy a PSU that has a 70mv random spike on any rail.

And yet somebody who knows way more about PSUs than you or I doesn't think it's a big deal.

My thoughts exactly, i know seasonic is good company but to be pushing them so hard for 100% more cost is crazy, the Antec may not be perfect but Jonnyguru is one of the most well respected PSU reviewers around.

I dont' discredit him at all, I take his reviews seriously. I just listen to the way he is talking in his reviews during certain sections and when it comes to clean stable power, that is a big one to really listen in on his words and tone of voice coming through the writing. You can clearly tell when is extremely impressed and when he is a hair under being extremely impressed. That is how good a writer he is... I actually laugh out loud about how he announces that he will be walking down the isle to get married to a PSU because of how impressed he is. Those are the types of things that really transcend his emotion about his opinion to the reader and express his enthusiasm level - to me, that is the review/score.

What in your opinion was his level of enthusiasm in that review?
