Gaming Rig recommendation

Hi

I am new to forums, but would value your opinions on the following

I am upgrading my current system to a new gaming system. I only use my system for gaming. Proposed system:

AMD FX60 dual core cpu
Ati sapphire blizzard x1900xtx video card
WD 10000 rpm raptor 150gb HDD
Gigabyte ga k8nf 9 MB
OCZ 2 x 2 gig 500MHz CAS 3 3 2 8 ram
Lian li case V1000B
pc power & cooling turbo cool 1KW psu

Pls let me know what u think?

Terrible.

Too much money spent on the CPU when you want to spend it on the graphics card. An overpriced PSU for something that doesn't need anything more than a $50 450W fortron and a rather uninspired motherboard choice.

With that budget you can afford either a crossfire or SLI system. SLI'd 7900GTs would beat a single X1900XTX with ease, drop the CPU down to the 4800X2 (92% of the performance, 70% of the price), get rid of that PSU (the 510W PCP&C is more than sufficent for either SLI'd 7900GTs or a single X1900XT) a 500W enermax liberty for example costs several hundred dollars less and works just as well.

change the mobo and get the Asus A8R32-MVP , and crossfire later with another x1900xtx

or get the Abit AT8 32X .

i laugh at you people saying terrible... cus you all know that you would give youyr left nut jsut to have that system.

sure you can OC an opteron and volt mod a 7900 but that is annoying and painsome while this is more worry free and dont ahve to worry about warrentys and what not

It's not a terrible system, by any means. It'll certainly do the job quite nicely, but it definitely does not fall into the 'most bang for your buck' category. Personally, I would go with a cheaper cpu like an Opteron 165 and spend the rest on another video card or a great sound card and speakers. To me, a few fps is fair trade for a more immersive experience provided by surround sound.

Get the DFI C32 X something somethuing the only crossfire board made by DFI at the moment.

X2 4800+

X1900XTX

Build your own watercooling setup or go phase since you obviously got the cash.

The raptor is fine since you have so much cash otherwise just get a nice 320gb hard drive.

CAse is nice

Ram is probably bit over the top. ARe you going to oc? If yes fine if not then hell no

PSU is overkill. PCP&C is loud. Get a Enermax Liberty or OCZ powerstream 520W

Overall expensive does not mean great. Sure it'll beat many things BUT you can get 90% of the performance for 1/2 of the price. ;-)

Looks good but the CPU could be downgraded to an X2 4800+ or even lower if you're willing to overclock. You'll be fine with any $100-200 PSU.

Wattage is a rather crap measure of a PSU, but money is an even worse one.

this guy obviously doesn't even care what he says, he hasn't responded since his first post. thats a bad build, anyone can put together a pc with top of the line parts.even if i did have $5k extra i wouldn't spend it all at once in a pc, spend 2k now, 2k next year to upgrade and 1k on misc crap

honestly, why not wait till Conroe and AM2 come along? do you realize that FX60 is gonna be crap when the next generation rolls around?
