Gaming Ultrabook for BF4?

Are there any upcoming high end Ultrabooks with dedicated graphics that will be released by the time BF4 is out?

Before anyone suggest I just get a PC, I live in a small studio and need something light, compact and mobile to travel with. BF4 is probably the only game I want to play.

Still, gaming on a crappy small screen laptop sucks.

Personally, I think gaming Ultrabooks are a waste of money because of the high costs.

I actually have a 23" screen and a wireless keyboard/mouse combo I'm using with my current laptop.

why not something like one of those shuttle Small form factor PCs? Get much better performance for much less price, then, buy an inexpensive laptop that is light and gets awesome battery life and spend less money for both systems?

Yeah, you can get a powerful mITX system which is still small. Not really any bigger than a couple of shoeboxes stacked on top of each other.

Think of a Lenovo Y series computer and a monitor (or you can use your flatscreen TV if you have one. You can string two video cards in SLI if you really need graphics performance, or you can swap out the second card for an extra battery, Optical drive or more storage when you're on the go (Swappable bay).

If you really want a laptop look into the various configurations of the MSI GT60. It'd not thin or light but its about the most performance you can get under a 16" screen and should be enough for BF4.

budget is important, too. OP didn't mention that. You can build a nice MSI or custom gaming rig for (?)$1300? You can get a Lenovo Y410p or Y510P out the door for about a grand.

I'm in agreement with the others here; an Ultrabook proper doesn't make much sense for what you want to do. The cost of portability is that you're subsequently looking at low TDP processors, e.g. 28W ULT Haswells and the like. You're simply not going to be able to comfortably play Battlefield 3 on that, never mind whatever BF4 throws at us.

You need to be looking at something closer to a mid-weight class laptop. A bigger laptop that can pack (and sufficiently cool) a standard wattage mobile processor alongside a mobile GK106/GK104 GPU. The best compromise for what you want, and given your high budget, is probably going to be something like the forthcoming Haswell based Razer Blade. If Razer doesn't completely screw it up it will pack suitably powerful processors in a form factor that isn't too far off from what you desire.

If you read up, I just suggested a Razer Blade.

The 17" is the Razer Blade Pro. The 14" is just the Razer Blade.

How well will the Nvidia GTX 765M GPU play BF4? I prefer the 14" for more compact traveling. Will be docking on a 23" at home though.

1600x900 TN panel. That really sucks. Every hands-on i've read says that the image deteriorates considerably once you view it off center. So you know, in airplanes, on your lap and anywhere other than a desk.

That's a good question. But it's not one we can really answer until BF4 is out.

Can someone recommend a gaming laptop w/ discrete graphics as a possible alternative to an Ultrabook?

Once again, the Lenovo Y410P has a discrete graphics card in a 14" form factor with the option to plug in a second card to the optical drive bay (which can also be swapped for an extra battery / HD, SSD of a Blu Ray drive depending on what you are doing). Pretty darn configurable to meet any of your needs, the form factor is fairly swelte, and the price point should allow you to buy a couple extra modules to swap from gaming monster to endless lifespan machine to super quick surfer at will.

Maybe I should have been more explicit in my first post that it was a 14" notebook as most of the posts around me were talking about shuttle boxes and Mini. ITX units

Its not the smallest laptop, but I just bought a Sagar NP8255 with a i7 4700MQ and a amd 8970M. It runs metro last light at 1080p wonderfully.

That being said, thats my laptop for business trips so I can game, my primary gaming PC is a desktop.

Dell and HP suck, try building your own or if you dont have the necessary skills have a friend/family member do so. Personally though, I only game on my laptop because I dont have the budget to get a high end gaming desktop alongside a low end work laptop.
