I didn't watch that, but i find it hard to believe that gang members would have the discipline to join the military just to learn how to fight.

Apparently some do and it is disturbing.

Unfortunately, it's pretty common. A few years ago, my son was stationed at MCAS Tustin, in SoCal, and the had a pretty bad gang problem on base, and neighboring El Toro had a HORRIBLE gang problem...they ran the barracks, and the rec halls...dealt drugs in the open, etc...Both bases have been closed since then, and consolidated into MCAS Miramar, and most of the problem has been dealt with, but it still exists.
There was a case here last year, of a local gang member who enlisted in the Marines, went off to Iraq for a tour, came home on leave, and rather than return, went gonzo, shot 2 cops before he was killed himself...The local hispanic groups called him a hero who was dealing with lots of PTSD issues. Turns out, he had never seen a single day of combat, and just pussied out, rather than go back...

Maybe you should watch it then, because they go over this.

I can remember several people in boot camp that were there because they faced jail otherwise. Supposedly they had stopped this sort of "you join the military or you go to jail" routine, but it apparently still exists.

Ya it does. They sometimes give the person 2 options. Spend 20 years in jail or 20 years in the military and of course there going to pick the military. Some people condisder it to be a honor to serve in the military while some criminal are forced to joined.

Criminals forced to join the military is probably not a good idea. Most people associate the military with discipline, but it doesn't matter what you go through if you're already rotten inside

There are some very very smart and discipline criminals out there. The military's the perfect place for them to acquire knowledge of combat and equipment. The military's like college for criminals.

But damn, that's scary.

Wow, I can't believe the gang graffiti in Iraq. They just take it right over there with them.

I went through Army boot camp in 1986. Three of my squad mates were hard core gangstas from Compton and similar areas. They made no bones about telling the rest of us where they were from and why they were going into the military.

Would be nice if that was a question on the basic background package and if you were found to have lied on that question your next assignment would be Ft Leavenworth KS.

Omfg..! what is the military doing about this? Don't they have some sort of screening, or some type of procedure to weed these *ssholes out?
This is really scary...

Edit: We are training our own little home grown terrorists right here in America..

OMG OMG OMG OMG. Get a clue.

First off, the "tactics" shown in the video are those anyone could learn in an hour or two. They are not even using advanced tactics. And I know the Army does a pretty decent job of screening people during BCT. No matter what happens, they will get in. Perhaps you would prefer we just disband the military.

It is my understanding that if you have a criminal record they will not take you in the military.

Yes and no. Some types of convictions prevent you from joining. It is possible to get in if you have maybe one conviction for a lesser crime. If you have a long conviction history it probably is not going to happen. I have met (and train with) many people in the Army with criminal records. All of them long ago turned their lives around.

Ahahaha, the only reason they get in is because the military is streteched so thin, the military is depserate recruits... so desperate they'll even recruit autistic children and people who have known drug problems (and they even help them pass drug tests)
