Gap Health Insurance Help

Hey folks,

Switching jobs here soon but I'm going to have a couple weeks in between jobs. It isn't exactly a seamless transition since i'm moving across the country. Any recommendations on insurance for those couple weeks while we are unemployed?

Call an independent agent in your area and/or check with the current state's DOI, because that's where the policy will be bound.

Many companies health insurance coverage is good until the end of the month.

check if that is the case.

Otherwise see what the COBRA cost is;
Expect to pay $400-500 for a policy as an independent that will have minimal coverage plus a registration fee.

When does your premium get paid and when does your new job start? If you're covered to the end of the month, and your new job starts on the 15th, then maybe you don't need to cover the gap.

If you were to have a serious medical problem, and the gap wasn't covered, you could retroactively use COBRA.

Good to know. My new job starts on Nov 26th. And I think my premium gets paid on the first so, that could work out well. I'll do some research and get back to you. Thanks for the info.

Also, I wasn't aware I could retroactively use COBRA if something happened so that takes a little bit of the anxiety out of the process. Thanks.
