For real reals question...what is the finish material of the walls? Did they actually finish the drywall in there? Most of the time garage drywall is a slop job and putting your head close to the wall in the daylight and looking down it will show the joints where the sheets are butted together/taped. It's not hard to locate.
In addition, your studs should be 16 inches on center, which should help you out if you're using the knock method instead of a Stud Finder.
