Hi all,

It's the strangest thing. I have a Sears garage opener with remote. Just recently I can't close the garage door with my remote. It'll open with remote but can't close. At first I thought my remote was broke so I went to Sears and got another one. Damn remote cost $39.99...what a ripoff. After I configured the remote, hoping the problem would go away but it didn't. It does the same thing. It'll open the door but can't close it.

I was just wondering if anyone has experience this issue? Do I need to replace the whole unit?

Hey George,

Check your rails. When my garage door failed, my rails, pulley and wheels were shot. I had to replace everything. You may also want to try WD-40.

nope...battery is fine...I bought a new remote with new battery and it does the same thing. It can open the garage door but no response when trying to close the darn thing. I would have to manually press the switch inside the garage to close the door. There's nothing blocking the sensor.

This may sound dumb, but is it cold where you live? Sometimes my garage door "acts up" when it is about 20 degrees outside.

Doggie,

Done that already...it's nice and lubed. There's nothing wrong with the garage door, I'm sure of it. Is there a "relay" that needs to be replaced? The unit seems fine, didn't make funny noises...just not responding to remote when closing....

When you use the wall button to close it, do you have to hold it in? That would indicate the sensors that look for obstructions aren't working right. Could be misaligned, broken wire, etc.

Or you could try unplugging the opener and plugging it back in to reset the electronics.

Mikey,

What are the rocker switches? Do you mean the dip switches inside the remote? Actually is there a way I can verify the code from the main unit?

They did away with dip switches a little while ago so if your unit is farily new, then there are no switches. You sync the remote with the unit by pressing the "Learn button" on the back of the opener itself then pressing the remote control button you want to use.

If it opens the door with the remote then that is not your problem. It could be these things:

- Your saftey beams are obstructed. If you have to hold the wall switch in order to make the door come down then that is the problem. You either have them misaligned or a wire is broken. If you lights flash 10 times then that is also an indication that the eyes are obstructed.

-The vacation button or lock button is activated on the wall switch. This is unlikely since you said that it opens the door with the remote, but check it anyways.
