garbage truck comes at 5am every saturday and wakes me up

they've actually come as early as 4.30am and the dumpster is about 50 feet away from my bedroom window so i get woken up every saturday at that hour, except for a few times i was passed out in REM sleep when i go to bed late on fri nite (or sat morning actually).

can i complain to the town or the garbage collection co. to have them do something about this?
it's ridiculous.

Where do you live? If it's the city, you're SOL buddy. Garbage disposal in the city has to come at odd times to avoid clogging up the streets for commuters.

I take it you rent being it?s a dumpster?

If so then the property owner?s probable gave them permission when they signed up. I know residential homes have rules/laws in most parts. But a dumpster is more commercial like a complex and as such the rules are different.

i can deal if it's a couple times a year, but not 52 freakin times a year.

No, no, no. I don't think you understand what I'm saying. You can complain all you want, but nothing is going to happen because the garbage trucks pretty much have to come at times like those to avoid blocking traffic and clogging up the roads for morning traffic.

i own, it's a condo in a low-rise apt complex in a residential neighborhood.

there is no traffic on a saturday morning, or most of the day.

secondly, they come at 7.30am on tuesdays so your reasoning doesn't make complete sense since there's more traffic at 7.30 on a tues than 7.30 on sat.
not that i would be ok with 7.30am on a saturday either...

I would at least check with them first. I am betting theres soemthing in their agreement that says you must come at this time and/or the trash company has a line that they come on XYZ days when it is good for them.

Landfills uaually close earlier on the weekend, esp the commercial ones.

crap, i missed the part where you mentioned the days

in that case, it's pretty ridiculous. I would find out who the disposal company is and complain to them first. if that doesn't work, complain to the city.

How long does it take you to fall back asleep when they pick up the dumpster? 5 minutes? The sound of a dumpster being emptied isn't worse than other noises you might hear, like a semi truck engine braking.

Have your garbage men wear fancy outfits and clean people's houses for them. Then when you blow through your year's budget in a month, earn more money by having other cities move their garbage into your town's abandoned mines! Seriously though, when I was a freshman in college, my dorm room was RIGHT next to the dorm's trash dumpster. The truck would come 1-2 mornings a week between 5-6 AM. That was annoying.

Also, my current apartment complex has decided to expand and build a whole new set of buildings right next to mine. That construction has been going on since last April, and it looks like it will continue for quite some time. Luckily I am usually able to fall back asleep after they wake me up.

You could try talking to the garbage company and just ask them if it's technically feasable for them to come later in the route. A polite request might actually cause an adjustment if the hauler is small enough. You never know.

I would NOT recommend waiting for the truck SUnday morning in your bathrobe and slippers whining about the situation to the driver. Unless, of course, you're waiting with a bribe.

it varies. sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes it'll screw me up the whole night (morning).
but minimum 10-15 mins.

as for trucker engine braking, that's why i do not live near major roads.
