Gas Money

I gave a girl a ride home from college today. As a personal rule, I don't ask for gas money from girls. When we got to her house, I helped carry some of her stuff up to her room. Her mom ran into me and insisted on giving me gas money.

What do I do with this (not hookers and blow)? I really want to give it back to their family some how, since they probably need it more than I do (three kids in college and one still in grade school).

Don't give it back. When someone insists on giving you something, just accept it graciously. To give it back would be insulting. You can try to decline at the time, but once you have accepted, that's it.

What money I make now goes only to groceries and gas, so it's not like I'm in desperate need of cash right now.

Call me naive, but I keep feeling like I should do something nice in return. But I guess that's what giving the ride was for, right?

That's unnecessary, and as stated above, could be considered rude. Give it to the FSF if you don't want to use it yourself, or buy the new Humble Bundle, and support cross platform, DRM free gaming, with the money going to good causes, and indie devs.

It can't be that large of an amount of money. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you have the opportunity to buy lunch or coffee or something, pay for her.
