Gas companies are de debil. I see these boycott the gas companies posted everywhere I go and if I had the money I'd probably spring for a motorcycle or hybrid. It's not that I drive a guzzler (25 mpg), but feeding the gas co's is pretty much a necessity nowadays, just a question of how much you feed them
The reason why gas companies are sueing the mass market chains is because they are running the individual gas marketers out of business. You see, most gas stations are not owned by the gas companies but are, in fact, owned by marketers... people not related to the company you see on the sign.
The reason they are getting run out of business is because gas stations dont make a whole lot of money off of gasoline (only ~5-10cents/gallon) and they rely on other items (snaks, drinks, etc.). The big mass-marketers can afford to sell their gas at a lower rate (and even lose money on the gas) because all they are interested in is attracting people to their stores, not in how much gas they sell. They make way more money than the individual gas stations and make up the loss they make in selling gas by just having people shop at their store.
I, personally, dont feel this is "right". People are complaining about the gas companies getting rich off of us but how come no one is complaining that regular people are loosing their businesses because of giant mass marketers like Wal-Mart?
