Gas companies are de debil. I see these boycott the gas companies posted everywhere I go and if I had the money I'd probably spring for a motorcycle or hybrid. It's not that I drive a guzzler (25 mpg), but feeding the gas co's is pretty much a necessity nowadays, just a question of how much you feed them

The reason why gas companies are sueing the mass market chains is because they are running the individual gas marketers out of business. You see, most gas stations are not owned by the gas companies but are, in fact, owned by marketers... people not related to the company you see on the sign.

The reason they are getting run out of business is because gas stations dont make a whole lot of money off of gasoline (only ~5-10cents/gallon) and they rely on other items (snaks, drinks, etc.). The big mass-marketers can afford to sell their gas at a lower rate (and even lose money on the gas) because all they are interested in is attracting people to their stores, not in how much gas they sell. They make way more money than the individual gas stations and make up the loss they make in selling gas by just having people shop at their store.

I, personally, dont feel this is "right". People are complaining about the gas companies getting rich off of us but how come no one is complaining that regular people are loosing their businesses because of giant mass marketers like Wal-Mart?

Huh. Here in Pittsburgh, Exxon/Mobil tends to have the best prices.

We need to do what Leonardo DiCRAPrio endorses and that's to find renewable, clean, and efficient energy sources.... Solar Power, Wind Generators, Fusion, Hydrogen.... we need to reduce our dependance on Petrolium.

Hehe, I love these movie stars who endorse stuff like this all the while having their own huge swimming pool, 15,000 square foot house that needs to be air conditioned, private jets, etc. They consume more than I do even if I spent all my spare money on barrels of gas and just burned it in my back yard.

OPEC fixes gas prices by raising the costs of barrels of crude. Exxon et al fix gas prices by charging exhorbitant prices to individual gas stations and requiring that they cannot sell it for less than a certain amount. I've spoken with a couple of gas station owners, even have some step uncles that own a couple...and they pretty much sell it at cost to them. Gas is just a way to get people to stop and get something else. I've purchased 2 sodas from places that sold gas in the last 2 years...They will just have to come up with a better niche to get people in. Hell, I'll be glad when we have cars that do 1---150 miles per gallon and the Opec nations are drowning in their own oil.

ehh... I dont know how accurate it is to say that if gas prices go keep going up so too will the stock... I heard a while back that the optimum price for gas was ~1.25/gal which means that both the gas companies and the econocmy will be best off. If gas prices continue to climb it will have a negative impact on consumer spending because people are spending more on gas and will be less inclined to travle and/or buy other things.
