not at all. I do see a lot of people running though, but I think it's got to do with the warmer weather. Maybe the biking is the same deal.

If I could get away with less driving I would. I have 50 minute commute to work and home from work every day.

The people I'm seeing are definitely commuters; back pack, elastic band on the pants leg, 10 year-old helmet they found in the toolshed....you know the type.

public transportation is a joke here. the US is simply too big land wise for it to be viable for a booming economy.

I blame auto manufacturers as hybrid and better deisel technologies have been around for decades. They could have been putting a lot more effort into alternative R&D instead of 15% or more into advertising of new vehicle cost. If they had built a better mousetrap people would have came without the lavish advertising $ . . .
Why do you blame a company? They are merely trying to make money. The consumer is more to blame than a company simply trying to make money, legally I might add. The company is a non-human entity. It won't suffer from anything in the way that a human can suffer. Consumers are humans; it's up to them.

Anyway I've said it before and I"ll say it again people are too selfish to act for the greater good, so what they won't do willingly you have to force them to do. You can do it with jacking up taxes, legislating actions out of them, etc. Humanity is no different than the deer in Alabama that overbreed and then due to a sudden ravishing of resources, are rewarded by mass dying. The authorities, to prevent this, have been known to kill some deer before this happens and they spoil it for the rest.

I say we apply that to this situation.

Newark, NJ...

I saw gas prices at $1.95 today

but my friend made a $20 bet with me that gas prices would never rise over $2 in NJ, so there's 10 gallons of gas if I win

Public transportation? Have you even bother looking at the size of United States and compare to the rest Europe? Granted, the public transporation in New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, etc. are pretty good but not in the west of United States.

We pay $5/gal.

Oh, and I maintain that high gas prices are meaningless to most europeans for the EXACT REASON that they have been that way for decades. They've almost always been high. They have been budgeting for high petrol prices for DECADES. They can manage the prices, because they have been managing the prices for a very long time.

WE HAVE NOT. Our personal budgets account for cheap energy. When you have a family on a shoestring budget (which most American families are) and all of a sudden in a matter of weeks one of your expenses increases in cost by 45%, the impact is very real, and simply telling people that they should "suck it up" is...ugh

Went up another 2 cents today, to $2.27/gal for Regular.

Add .10 for plus and another .10 for premium.

:Q

And that's the cheap station.

The station near my house (in San Antonio, TX) went up from $1.83 to $1.97 in one day, and all others I've seen today have had similar increases. This is for the "cheap" gas too, since it's all my car needs.

I have an 18 gallon tank too....

Edit: But at least I don't have a big truck like one of my friends. I don't exactly know what kind of mileage he gets or how big his gas tank is, but he told me that once the counter reached $35, he just couldn't bring himself to fill it up any more...

I remember thinking $1.39 was high, and that was probably only 8 months ago.

I never understood the argument with gas prices. Unless the difference is more than 30 cents a gallon it is negligable. OMG you saved two dollars on a tank of gas, who the hell cares. You waste more than that a week on stupid stuff you don't even want.
